Leroy Arthur Deak Leonard Boy Ellington, Jr., 68, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Thursday, October 28, 2010 at Putnam Community Medical Center following an extended illness. Leroy was a native of Palatka, born on Sunday, July 12, 1942 to Deacon Leroy Arthur Sr., and Mother Annie Ruth (Smith) Ellington. At an early age, he became a member of Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. He was a 1960 graduate of Central Academy High School and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Although Leroy had no biological children, he was a loving and caring uncle to all of his beloved nieces & nephews.
Deak is preceded in eternal rest by his parents; sisters, Mother Annette Ellington Gardner, Dorothy Ellington Williams, Vera and Karen Ellington; brother, Calvin Ellington; adopted brother Patrick Copeland; and niece, Linda Ann Delancy.
To cherish His Memories, Brothers, Evangelist Edward Kenny (Judy) Ellington, Hastings; Robert Ellington & Clifford Ellington both of Palatka; sister and brother in law, Pastor Dr. Patricia Ellington (Pastor Dr. Gary) Stern, North Chicago, IL; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, classmates, other relatives and numerous friends.
Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m. Friday (today) November 5 at the Chapel of Serenity. Homegoing celebration will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 6, 2010 at Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 1000 North 19th Street, Palatka, Rev. Anthony Q. Robinson, Sr., Pastor. Pastor Dr. Gary Stern, Peace of God Outreach Ministries, North Chicago is the eulogist.
Interment will be in the Ellington family plot at Evergreen Cemetery. The cortege will assemble at Greater Shiloh Fellowship Hall at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
