Obituary

Bishop Lawrence "Charles" McCoy, 61, a native and lifelong resident of Welaka, entered the sunset of life unexpectedly on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Putnam Community Medical Center, Palatka.The son of David McCoy and Mildred Canty, he was born on Wednesday, January 6, 1954. He was a graduate of Crescent City High School, Class of 1972. He was a longtime employee of Georgia-Pacific and was currently a Kraft Paper Supervisor. He was a former member of the Welaka Church of God by Faith. In 2005, he answered the call into the Gospel ministry and subsequently became the Pastor of New Life Deliverance Center, Welaka. In 2010, he was ordained as Bishop of New Life Deliverance Center. Bishop McCoy and his wife, Pastor Edna McCoy, officially served and proclaimed the Gospel together. He was a very industrious man who enjoyed spending quality time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in eternal rest by his sister, Thelma Smith.

He leaves to cherish his memories: loving and devoted wife of 31 years , Pastor Edna Mae Vickers McCoy; son, Apostle Antonio E. (Nickia L.) King; daughter , Kimkezia (Oswald) Beacham; 15 grandchildren, Derian, Antonio Jr., Auryana, Antonia, Brachalyn, Tonyla, and Amir Antonio King; Kymmora Samuel; Bryanna Sanks; Olivia, Oriana, Osha, Savannah, Oswald III, and Ozias Beacham; 6 brothers, James, Butch,Calvin, and Jerry Canty; MSgt. David (Tamala) McCoy; Troy (Jamelle) McCoy; 7 sisters, Delores (Johnny) Brown, Diane Canty, Marilyn Hagans, Pauline (Wesley) Solomon, Linda (Robert) Ashe, Sandra (James) Herring, and Denise (Spencer) Miller; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

Visitation of family & friends will be 12-2 p.m., Friday, December 4 at New Life Deliverance Center, 911 Elm Street, Welaka; 4-8 p.m. at Flagg's Chapel of Serenity. Homegoing Celebration will be 11 a.m., Saturday, December 5, at True Foundation Ministries, 608 Randolph Street, Crescent City, Pastor Gwendolyn George. His brother-in-law, Reverend James Vickers, Pastor of St. Johns Missionary Baptist Church, Seville, is the eulogist.
