Lawrence "Clifford" Goss, Sr., 79, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Monday, January 7, 2019 at Orange Park Medical Center. A native of Georgetown, FL., he was the son of Willie Bradshaw Sr., & Mary Magdalene Goss, born on Saturday, April 22, 1939. He was a 1959 graduate of Central Academy High School. In his early years, he joined Macedonia Baptist Church in Georgetown and in recent years, visited Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Palatka. In 1964, he enlisted in the United States Army and continued to serve until retirement in the U.S. Army Reserves for a collective total of 20+ years. "Clifford" as he was affectionately known was formerly employed at Georgia Pacific in the Kraft Shipping department. He was a member of Sturwell Masonic Lodge F & A.M. #348, Hastings, FL. In his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing and watching football, and was an avid Florida State Seminole fan. In addition to his parents, Lawrence was preceded in eternal rest by his wife, Mary Jackson Goss; sons, Lawrence Goss, Robert Jackson, Leroy Jackson; sisters, Kathleen Oxendine Curry, Hazel Bradshaw Brown; brothers, Willie Bradshaw, Jr., Cecil Bradshaw.
He leaves to cherish his memories: daughters, Tammy Goss, Ft. Lauderdale, Dionne (Eddie) Stoveall, Orange Park; Trelane Jackson, Palatka, Crystal Rand, Boynton Beach; son, Lawrence C. Goss, Jr., Afghanistan; Willie Battles, Tallahassee; Travis Campbell, Scottsdale, AZ; 17 grandchildren, Darcel Ellam, Orange Park; Ciara Green (Carlos) Monroe, Johnson Crossroads; Ashley Goss, Palatka; Brittany Donato, Ft. Lauderdale; Kendric Lawrence Johnson, Orange Park; Darrian Hodge, Ft Lauderdale; Kris Smalls, Orlando; Myah Parnther, Boynton Beach; Jade Evans, Jeritz Jones Palatka; Alex Evans, Gainesville; Ty Edwards, Brianna Scott, Palatka, Terrell Campbell, Houston, TX; Tafaria Baker, Chardonnay Jackson, Amari Scott; 23 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Lucy Mae (Greg) Long, East Palatka; Jerri (Michael) Fleming, Poughkeepsie, NY; Raggie Canty, Wesley Chapel, FL; 5 brothers, Leroy (Catherine) Oxendine, Sr., and Roosevelt (Mary) Oxendine, both of Palatka; Hayward (Irma) Oxendine, Melbourne; Alphonso Oxendine, Jacksonville; Frank (Sallie) Oxendine, Georgetown; goddaughter, Tangelar Clark (Leroy) Jackson, Palatka; aunt, Nora Bradshaw, Denmark, Sweden; uncle, Otis Bradshaw, Lawrence, KS; a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m., Friday, January 18, at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 19, at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 719 Reid Street, Palatka, Reverend James McGriff, Pastor. Elder Loverso Walker, Pastor of Faith Temple Church of God in Christ, Daytona Beach, is the eulogist. Interment with full military honors conducted by Fort Stewart, U.S. Army Honor Guard will be in Pattersonville Cemetery, East Palatka.
