Laursia Bell "Shorty" Harrington, 68, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at Putnam Community Medical Center, Palatka. A native of Gulf Hammock, FL, and daughter of Willie "Buster" Bell and Theoria Lee Wright, Laursia was born on Monday, July 14, 1952. "Shorty" was educated in the Putnam County School District at Central Academy High School. She was a former member of Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Elder J. C. Tookes. "Shorty" enjoyed cooking, cleaning, decorating, shopping, and traveling. She was employed as a housekeeping supervisor at Palatka (now Solaris) Healthcare Center. In addition to her father, she was preceded in eternal rest by her aunt, Lena Beatrice Latson.
She leaves to cherish her memories: husband, Roosevelt Harrington, Jr., Palatka; mother, Theoria Lee Wright, Avon Park; daughters, LaShama E. Y. DeJesus, Yaena A. Walker; both of Palatka; grandchildren, Montrey Torrence, Lovely Perry, D'Abran Ellis, Aunesty Ellis, Liberty DeJesus; great-grandchildren, Loyalty Pride, Shaman Young-Pride; brothers, Press Strong, Jr., Eugene Jacobs, Dipoko Jacobs; sisters, Audrey Tillie, Marion Johnson, Bobbie Jean Strong, Avis Ellis, Gloria Gissendaner, Precious Jacobs, Betty Ann Parker; goddaughter, Satonya Wright; god-sisters, Kathy Melton, Mary Jean Batts, Patricia A. "Pat" Brown, Lytinia "Tan" McCullough; special cousins, Panzie Harris, Willie (Peggy) Latson; and a host of other relatives and friends .
In compliance with CDC COVID-19 guidelines (including required masks) a socially-distanced visitation of family and friends will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, March 19 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity". Homegoing Celebration at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 20 at Pentecostal COGIC, 624 N. 9 th Street, Palatka, Rev. Earl Matthews, host pastor. Rev. James McGriff, pastor of Bethel A.M.E. Church, is the eulogist. Interment will be in the Oak Hill West Cemetery, Palatka.
