In Loving Memory of Laura Mae Arvinger

Laura Mae Arvinger was born on Wednesday, September 27, 1961, in Palatka, Florida.

Laura attended Seville Public School for her elementary education and T. Dewitt Taylor Middle High School during her middle and high school years. She continued her education at South Carolina State and Daytona State College, earning an associate’s degree in Communication from Daytona State College.

Laura began her culinary career as a cook at The Little Smokehouse in Pierson, Florida. She later became the head cook at Friendly’s and Perkins in DeLand, Florida, and at Five Oaks Rest Home in Welaka, Florida. After many years as a lead staff person in several culinary departments, she transitioned to a career in law enforcement, retiring as a juvenile detention officer at the Juvenile Detention Center in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Cooking and baking remained among Laura’s greatest joys. Her life was shaped by her love of family, her faith, and a passion for preparing and sharing food. She often discovered recipes in magazines or on television, then added her own touches to make them uniquely hers. Laura loved the Lord and enjoyed attending church, where she shared her culinary talents by cooking and serving in the kitchen during special programs. She also served as a trustee at Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church in Seville, FL under Pastor Willie Mae Joma. Before her transition, Laura was under the leadership of Reverend Brian K. James at New Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, Crescent City, FL.

When she was not cooking, Laura could often be found reading or watching her favorite television shows, including the soap opera, Days of Our Lives. These everyday pleasures, along with her love for preparing food for others, are part of the memories her loved ones will cherish the most.

Laura was preceded in eternal rest by her mother, Victoria Moody, and brother, John Moody.

Laura entered the sunset of life at the age of 65, on Wednesday, October 28, 2026 in Deland.

Laura will be forever cherished by her father, Willie Jenkins, Sr.; sister, Vera Arvinger; brothers, Willie Jenkins, Jr., and Marcus Jenkins; nieces, Victoria Langston, Victoria Moody, and Leona Mitchell; nephew, Anthony Walton; and great-niece, Skyler Mitchell. She is also lovingly remembered by two special friends, Jacqueline Walker and Cynthia Brown; a near and dear friend and caretaker, Robert Lewis and a host of family and friends.

Laura’s memory will live on through the meals she shared, the service she gave in the church kitchen, and the moments spent with those who loved her. Her family and friends will forever cherish her life and the place she holds in their hearts.
