August 12, 1965 – August 11, 2021
LaTonya Gail Perry, 55, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at North Florida Regional Medical Center, Gainesville. A native and lifelong resident of Palatka, she was the daughter of Lee and Eubelyne (Boyd) Perry, born on Thursday, August 12, 1965. She was educated in the Putnam County School District and a graduate of Palatka High School. LaTonya served as an Early Child Development Aide at Palatka High School for several years assisting teenage mothers while they continue to fulfill graduation requirements. She also was a cook at Hastings Youth Academy for 10 years, and formerly Putnam Community Medical Center, until her health prevailed.
Since 2002, she has served as an active member of Progressive Freewill Holiness Church of God, Apopka under the leadership of Bishop James McFarley. She would assist in numerous church ministries and lend a helping hand to numerous other events. She was an awesome seamstress who previously won a first place prize for sewing at the Putnam County fair.
In addition to her parents Latonya was preceded in eternal rest by her sisters, Tina Harris, Annie Ruth, Lena Mae Gibbs, Fannie M. Session (6/27/21); brothers, Johnny Lee Perry, Lee Perry, Jr., and Lawrence Perry.
She leaves to cherish her memories: son, Cortavis L. Perry; sisters, Alice Hightower, Brunswick, GA; Jannie Edwards, Barbara Woods, Cynthia (Albert) Blue, all of Palatka; Lillian Powell, Ft. Myers; brothers, Vance Perry, Palm Coast; Andrew Perry, Palatka; Willie C. Perry, Cape Coral; Cornelious Perry, Ft. Myers; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Visitation of family and friends will be 4-6 p.m., Friday, August 20 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Celebration of LaTonya's Life will be 1 p.m., Saturday, August 21 at Palatka High School, 302 Mellon Road, Palatka. Dr. Tyrone A. Blue, Pastor of First Missionary Baptist Church of Gainesville, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery.
