Obituary

Larry Donnell Miller, Sr., 70, of New Smyrna Beach, entered the sunset of life on Wednesday, April 29, 2020 at AdventHealth, Daytona Beach. The son of Eugene Miller, Sr. and Queen Ollie Bivens Miller, Larry was born on Saturday, April 8, 1950 as the second eldest child of their six children. He was a 1968 graduate of Central Academy High School and was an accomplished saxophonist (section leader during his senior year.) Larry was well beyond his years in accomplishments. The Miller family's children had to learn to pray, quote a selected Bible verse, and sing a hymn to fit their unique personality. Larry's chosen song was "In the Garden" and he was also an ordained Deacon. He was ambitious and a go-getter. He once took the family's brand-new TV apart and put it back together without his parents ever knowing what he had done. There was a bond between Larry, Eugene, and Leonardo, that was unbreakable. Larry was one that was always willing to help others. If Larry liked you, he liked you; if Larry didn't like you, he didn't like you. You always knew where you stood with Larry. In 1972, Larry married the love of his life, the former Beneta Saunders and they became the proud parents of four children.

Larry was an electronics contractor who installed satellites and he also used his skills to help his baby sister, Brenda with her satellite company, although his passion was shortwave radios. He loved Citizen Band "CB" Radios (his handle was KBQ6260) and was intrigued with anything associated with star-gazing. He truly loved taking his children to the Hamm fest (he and his daughter shared together). He was a former radio disc jockey at the former WWPF Station in Palatka. He was a Civil Air Patrol at the Palatka Municipal Airport, Kay Larkin Field, Sky Diving Club as well as an artist. His awesome, professional career included Martin Marietta, The Harris Corporation and Florida East Coast Railroad (St. Augustine, FL)
Everyone that knew Larry knew he loved to engage in intellectual conversations, or some may say debates. Prior to his declining health, during one of his last travel excursions to Maryland, he got an opportunity to spend time in such conversations with his Sister Maxine and a host of other relatives. While residing in Daytona Beach, his brother-in-law, St. Clair Kennedy cared for him like a loyal biological "blood" brother and anything Larry needed, St. Clair and his sister Kay, ensured that the mission was accomplished. Larry loved his family and could often be heard bragging to the nurses and other residents at the rehabilitation center concerning his children, even asking them to guess how many grandchildren he had. He was always excited to hear people mention how much his sons looked like him and he was proud of all of his children. His niece and nephew Marcus and Teral Peck along with their children loved their Uncle Larry and were there to make sure that he had his snacks.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in eternal rest by his daughter, Baby Ollie Miller; brother, Eugene Miller, Jr. (8 days earlier, April 21, 2020).

To cherish his memories: former wife, Beneta Miller; daughter, Marjorie Grace (Damian) Lynch; sons, Larry Donnell (Jessie) Miller, Jr.; Robert Eugene (Lauren) Miller; four grandchildren: Madison, Bryce, Irislouise, and Ellaquinn; brothers and sisters, Ophelia Maxine (Apostle Willie, Jr.) Miller-Ogburn, Cassandra (Minister St. Clair) Miller-Kennedy, Brenda (Apostle Willie) Miller-Chambliss, Leonardo D. (Karen) Miller; aunt, Ruthie Mae Miller; and a host of other relatives and friends, including special cousins, Michael Cannon, Lenora Cannon Taylor, and the entire Atlanta, GA., crew.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the Miller family will conduct a limited, socially-distanced graveside service with interment at 10 a.m., on Saturday, May 9 at Glencoe-Geiger Cemetery, 435 Sugar Mill Drive, New Smyrna Beach, FL.
