Larry Dean "Lil' Larry" "Kirk" Kirkland, Jr., 48, of Macon, GA (formerly Palatka), entered the sunset of life on Monday, February 28, 2022, at Atrium Health Navicent the Medical Center of Macon, GA. The son of Larry Dean Kirkland, Sr. and Mildred J. (Vreen) Oliver, he was born on Monday, May 7, 1973 in Gainesville. He was a 1992 graduate of Palatka High School. Larry was baptized at an early age at Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church by the Reverend James A. Wright, Pastor. Larry took great pride in his work and his employment as a short order cook at the Waffle House in Macon, GA. Larry enjoyed watching movies, playing basketball (before two major knee surgeries) and video games. During social gatherings, Larry came to win and to enjoy winning all the chess, board games, dominos and card games.
Larry was preceded in eternal rest by his fathers, Larry Dean Kirkland, Sr.; Walter Lee Oliver, Jr.; grandparents, Earl and Kathryn Vreen, Otis Garrison, Sr. Walter and Birdie Oliver, Sr.; great-grandparents, especially paternal great-grandmother "My Anna May" Annie Mae Appling and maternal great-grandfather, Dea. Eddie Julius Vreen; uncles, Earl J. Vreen, Jr., Lonnie "PeeWee" Vreen, Otis Garrison, Jr.; aunt, Kim Vreen Johns.
Larry leaves to cherish his memories: beloved mother, Mildred Vreen Oliver, Palatka; devoted girlfriend , Chelsea Ware, Macon, GA; paternal grandmother , Shirley Appling Garrison, St. Augustine; sisters, LaShay Johnson, Biloxi, MS; Aisha Simmons, Hinesville, GA; Traci (Dennile) Chambliss, Jacksonville; Lea (Cedric) Lewis, Wesley Chapel; brothers, Anthony (Glenda) Canty, Sr. Hinesville, GA; Michael (Alyssa) Canty, Haines City; Rev. Walter (Reasa) Oliver, III Beltsville, MD; James (Jenisha) Oliver, Sanford; Mario "BJ" Bryant, Jacksonville; Nicholas Kirkland, Tallahassee; aunts and uncles, Dianne Vreen, Forestville, MD; Vickie (Elder H. Wayne, Sr.) Colbert, Ronald (Joann) Vreen, Samuel (Tomeka) Vreen, all of Palatka; Sylvia Smith (Rev. Ronald) Jones, Hastings; Kathy Isreal, Yonkers, NY; Patricia (Clarence) Robinson, Satsuma; Daryl (Monica) Oliver, Palm Coast; "like an uncle" James DeLoach, Palm Coast; cousins raised as brothers, Kevin Cleveland and DMarquis Vreen; special friends , Kareem Faison, Jimmy Wilson, Sylvester James, Chris Jackson, Willie "Champ" Offord and Arthur Godfrey; and a host of a host of nieces, nephews, loving cousins and friends.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m., Friday, March 4, at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." A Celebration of Larry's Life will be 11 a.m., Saturday, March 5, at Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 1000 N. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., (19 th ) Street, Palatka, Rev. Anthony Q. Robinson, Sr., Pastor, presiding. Larry's brother, Rev. Walter Oliver, III, Pastor of Young Adults, Shiloh Baptist Church, McLean, VA., is the eulogist. Interment: Oak Hill West Cemetery.
