Obituary

Larry Jay Adair, Sr., 82, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Sunday, May 8, 2022 at HCA Florida Putnam Hospital, Palatka, due to natural causes. A native of Omaha, Nebraska, he was born on Monday, March, 11, 1940 to Juel E. "Jay" Adair and Golda Worrell Adair. He was united in marriage to the former Janet C. Doughtie on Saturday, October 22, 1966.   He served in the United States Navy as an Avionics Technician until his retirement in 1979 following 22 years of honorable service.  He was also a retired Truck Driving Instructor at Tidewater Community College in Virginia.

Larry was devoted to his family and loved spending time surrounded by his loved ones and friends.  He had a wonderful sense of humor, and was quick to find the humor in most circumstances. He loved making people laugh as much as he loved people making him laugh.  He was very outgoing and was quick to put others at ease with his friendly manner and outgoing personality. He was the proud father of 8, grandfather of 19, and great-grandfather of 15, facts that he loved to share with anyone who would listen.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in eternal rest by his son, Coleman W. Adair; daughter, Nicole P. Adair; granddaughter, Jan Hartman; brother, Donald Adair; mother-in-law, Gwendolyn L. Doughtie and father-in-law, Bolden R. Doughtie.

Larry leaves to cherish his memories: wife, Janet, a native of Virginia; children, Connie L. (Ernie) Cook, Dallas, TX; Wendy (Tony) DeVault, Virginia Beach, VA; Larry (Cindy) Adair, Jr., Johnson City, TX; Susan M. (Gregory) Hartman, Newfield, NJ; Casey J. (Jennifer) Adair, Double Oak, TX; Carolyn L. (Thomas) Kurtz, Middleburg; grandchildren, Danielle DeVault Williams, Whitney DeVault Baumbach, Ashley Adair Adams, Jessica Cook, Gregory Hartman Jr, Daniel Adair, Stephen Hartman, Andrew Hartman, Timothy Hartman, Melanie Cook Bruno, James Cook, Stuart Cook, Joseph Cook, John Cook, Shane Adair, Ryan Kurtz, Emma Adair, Mason Adair and Wyatt Adair; 15 great-grandchildren; sister,  Shirley Adair Megal, Statham, GA; brothers, Gene Adair, Fremont, NE; Paul Adair, Omaha, NE; paternal aunt, Ginny Adair, Springfield, NE; sister-in-law, Janice Doughtie Phelps, Moyock, NC; and numerous  cousins, nieces and nephews.

Larry's desire was to have his cremains scattered upon the Atlantic Ocean without a formal memorial service and the family will be honoring his wishes.  He hoped those who miss him would think of him and smile.  Family and friends may choose to make memorial donations in loving memory of Larry Jay Adair, Sr., c/o The American Lung Association, 6852 Belfort Oaks Place, Jacksonville, FL 32216, or the charity of your choice.
