Obituary

LaKeisha Shentae Pitts, lovingly known as "Kesh," was born on June 19, 1983, in Orlando, Florida, to Minister Willie John Pitts Jr. and Missionary Alice Jones. From the very beginning, her life was rooted in faith, family, and purpose. On June 7, 2025, at the age of 41, LaKeisha peacefully transitioned from this life at the Haven Hospice E.T. York Center in Gainesville, Florida. Though her time on earth was brief, her presence left an indelible mark on every soul she touched.

LaKeisha was a proud product of the Flagler County Public School system, where she laid the foundation for a life marked by resilience and connection. She went on to serve in the Food Service industry, where her work ethic and warmth left lasting impressions on those she encountered. More than anything, LaKeisha is remembered for her vibrant, larger-than-life personality—her laughter could fill a room, and her wit brought joy to all who knew her. Beneath her humor was an unwavering devotion to her family, a love that ran deep and defined the very core of who she was.

She was preceded in death by her beloved father, Minister Willie John Pitts Jr.; her paternal grandparents, Isabander McCalip and Willie John Pitts Sr.; her maternal grandparents, Superintendent Thomas Colbert Jr. and Myrtis Colbert; as well as W.H. Golden and Bertha Staples. Each of them helped shape the legacy of faith, strength, and love that LaKeisha carried in her own life.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories in the hearts of many. Her devoted sons, Jalin K. Pitts of Finchburg, MA and Christopher Caldwell Jr. of Daytona Beach, carry forward her spirit and strength. Her loving mother, Missionary Alice Jones of Palatka remains a pillar of faith and grace, having nurtured LaKeisha's journey from the very beginning. She is also survived by her dear brothers: Willie John Pitts III of Palm Coast; Jonathan Pitts of Ohio; and Alex W. H. Golden of Savannah, GA; Bernard Roan of Palatka—each of whom shared in the bond of siblinghood that grounded her life with laughter and loyalty. Among her extended family, she leaves treasured memories with her uncles: Pastor Thomas (Dorothy) Colbert III of Tallahassee; Minister Alvin (Denise) Colbert Sr. of Hampton, GA; Superintendent H. Wayne (Vickie) Colbert Sr. of Palatka - men who each, in their own way, contributed to the heritage of faith and family that shaped LaKeisha's life and uncles: Clinton McCalip of Orlando; Ollie McCalip of Orlando; and Howard Pitts of Florida. Her beloved aunts include: Mother Cheryl (Leon) Ward of Stockbridge, GA; Myrtis (Tony) Robbins of Hawthorne; Clandestine McCalip of Orlando; Marilyn McCalip of Orlando—women who wrapped her life in care, wisdom, and enduring love. She was further blessed by the guidance and covering of her godparents: Elder Alonzo and Sister Marva Mulberry, who walked with her in spirit and faith. LaKeisha's memory will also be honored by a host of cousins, relatives, and dear friends who were touched by her joy, her strength, and her unwavering heart.
