Obituary

Kim Desmond "Desi" Varner, Jr., 25, of Jacksonville, entered the sunset of life on Thursday, September 24, 2015. The son of Kim D. and Joy Varner, Sr., he was born on Sunday, January 7, 1990 in Jacksonville, Florida. He was a 2008 graduate of William M. Raines High School. At an early age, Kim was baptized at St. Matthews Baptist Church and he later moved his Christian experience to Bethel Baptist Institutional Church, where he enjoyed attending the youth church. As a young adult, he rededicated his life to Christ at Exodus International Ministries, where he was presently attending. "Desi" as he was affectionately called, loved sports, and was affiliated with the North Jax and the Kooker Park Athletic Associations. Within these associations, his teams won several state and national championships, and due to his notable skills and ability to carry the team through tight games, he gained the nicknames "North Jax Legend" and "U-Haul". He also played basketball and football at Raines High School. "Desi" was well liked and known for his huge personality, big smile, and very contagious laugh. He was a loving father and he was very dedicated to his family and friends. He had an extremely close relationship with his younger brother, Keenan, who he loved dearly. He leaves to cherish his memories: two loving children, Ki'mari and Khloe Varner (LaToya Watts - children's mother); mother, Joy Varner; father, Kim D. Varner Sr.; sister, Kristin (Travis) Williams; brother, Keenan Varner; maternal grandparents, Sam & Mable McCoy; paternal grandparents, Dozell & Hazel Varner; all of Jacksonville; and a host of aunts & uncles, cousins, god-brothers, other relatives and friends. A Celebration of Desi's Life will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, October 1 at Bethel Baptist Institutional Church, 215 Bethel Baptist Street Jacksonville, Bishop Rudolph W. McKissick, Jr., & Bishop Rudloph W. McKissick, Sr., are the Officiants. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Jacksonville.
