Obituary

Kenneth Lee Moten, Sr., 48, of Crescent City, peacefully entered the sunset of life on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Haven Hospice-Roberts Care Center in Palatka following an extended illness. A native of Daytona Beach, Kenneth was the son of Mr. Cardy and Reverend Mildred (Meeks) Moten, born on Saturday, December 11, 1965. He was a 1983 graduate of Mainland High School, Daytona Beach and also attended Daytona Beach Community College. Kenneth was formerly employed with the family's business, C. Moten Carpet & Drapery and later worked in construction. He was a retired truck driver, employed by Waste Management for 11 years. Kenneth loved people and was willing to help anyone. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and was a faithful member of Union Bethel A.M.E. Church in Crescent City where he actively in Sunday School, on the Steward Board and sang in the Choir. He was preceded in eternal rest by his son, Tyree Fuqua. He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving wife of seven years, Celia Loretta "Booky" Moten; his devoted parents, Mr. Cardy (Reverend Mildred) Moten, Crescent City; sons, NeShawn (Deborah) Crooms and Kevin McBride, both of Daytona Beach, Kenneth L. Moten, Jr., and Lavon Moten, both of Orlando; daughters, Shewanda Crooms (Vicki), Tallahassee; Jerrica Ferguson, Atlanta, GA., Kathleen (David) Roberts, Crescent City; sisters, Lorraine (Roderick) Watson and Tangela (William) Davis, both of Daytona Beach, brothers, Cardy (Jane) Moten, Jr., Deltona; Mirial (Katie) Moten, Crescent City; Aunts and uncles, Willie B. Bishop, Gadsden, AL., Mamie Washington, Gainesville; Ruth (Scott) Hackstall, Bronx, NY., Betty Hogand and Marcelle Sair, both of New Smyrna Beach; Hazel Dawson, Dorothy Newton, and Jessie Moten, all of Daytona Beach; Hardy Moten, Jr., Valdosta, GA., William (Ruthie) Dawson, High Springs; sisters-in-law, Sophia (Clifford) Coe, Ramona (Christopher) Richardson, Daytona Beach; Retonia (Andre) Smith, Tallahassee; Stephanie (Ronald) Bolton, Gainesville; brother-in-law, Raymond Lee, High Springs, Joan Dawson, Simpsonville, SC; 11 grandchildren, NeShawn Crooms, II, Liam Crooms, Antonio Murphy, Jorden Dixon, Katelynn Dixon, Kollen Dixon, Kourtnee Roberts, Kentrae McBride, Keandre McBride, Kevbre'aun McBride, and TaNaijah Middleton; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends, especially, Henry Davis, Putnam Hall; Alfred Ashe, Crescent City; and Georgia Griffin, Welaka. A Memorial Celebration will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, November 8, 2014 at Howe Memorial United Methodist Church Annex, 252 N. Summit St., Crescent City. Reverend Willie Williams, pastor of Union Bethel A.M.E. Church, is the eulogist.
