Kathryn Yvonne Dekle Roberts, 84, of Palatka, peacefully entered the sunset of life on Friday, August 11, 2017, at home surrounded by her loving family. The daughter of Thomas and Dorothy (Stringer) Dekle, she was a native of Metcalf, GA., born on Thursday, March 23, 1933. She was educated in the Thomas County, GA School District. Kathryn earned a Bachelor of Science degree (Elementary Education), Valdosta State (1955); Master's Degree (Education), Rollins College (1972); and certification in "English as a Second Language," University of South Florida (1980). As an English and Reading Professor, her lifetime work was devoted to education. She developed an international reading program designed to teach people how to read and to train teachers within their respective community. She traveled extensively to Taiwan in the late 1980's, working with corporations teaching employees ESL. One of her favorite trips was to Cameroon in the early 1990's. She invested several of her climaxing years working with all age groups in the Putnam County Library teaching reading and ESL. Kathryn was of the Baha'i Faith and she truly loved this community.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in eternal rest by her husband, Jesse Porter Roberts, Sr.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her children, Karen Roberts (Calvin) Close, Palatka, Claire Roberts (Jeff) Foltz, Milton, GA; Jesse Porter "Jep" (Kelly) Roberts, Jr., Chuluota, FL; 4 grandchildren, Casey Close, Callie Foltz, Porter Foltz, Hannah Roberts; 2 great-grandchildren, Raelynn Foltz, Aubry Maday; and other loving relatives and friends.
A Graveside Service was held on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at the Prairie Creek Conservation Cemetery, Gainesville, Allan Moynihan, Officiating.
