Obituary

June Deloris Douglas Evins, 66, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Friday, May 29, 2015 peacefully at her residence. A native and lifelong resident of Putnam County, she was the daughter of Benjamin and Australia (Devoe) Douglas, born on Sunday, March 6, 1949. She was a graduate of Central Academy High School, Class of 1965. In 1970, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from Florida Memorial College, Miami. On June 2, 1973, June was united in Holy Matrimony to Willard Boyd Evins, Jr. and 12 years later they welcomed their "Miracle Baby"- Willard Rishawn Douglas Evins into the world. She was a former employee of the Marion County School System, Florida Department of Children and Families, and Kmart. In 2007, she retired from Ideal Stant Corporation in St. Augustine as a Quality Control Inspector. She was briefly employed at PRC from 2008-09. She was a devoted member of Bethel A.M.E Church where she taught Church School and served on the Stewardess Board. June was affectionately known as "Superwoman" for her perseverance and faith through kidney failure, dialysis and a stroke. June was preceded in eternal rest by her parents; husband; and brother, Benjamin Arthur Douglas, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memories: sons, Willard Rishawn Douglas Evins, Henry Thomas, both of Orlando; daughter, Debra (Donald) Montgomery, Ewing, NJ; stepson, Tracy (Kenyata) Evins, Jacksonville; granddaughter, Mimi Evins, Orlando; sisters, Bennie Jean Douglas, Gainesville; Joyce (Reverend James) McGriff, Palatka; godchildren, Briana Shantel Anderson, Gainesville, Tah'Miya Childs, Jaischa Childs, both of Palatka; and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m., Friday, June 5, at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be held at 12 noon, Saturday, June 6, at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 719 Reid Street, Palatka, Reverend James E. McGriff, Pastor-Eulogist. Interment will be 9 a.m. Monday, June 8 in the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville.
