Julia Mae Batts Torrance, 68, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life, surrounded by her loving family, on Friday, May 23, 2025 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center, Palatka. The daughter of Janie Nixon and Larry Batts, Sr., she was born on Monday, November 6,1956 in Palatka. Julia was educated in the Putnam County School District and a 1974 graduate of Palatka Central High School. She attended St. Johns River Community College where she earned an Associate's of Science Degree in Business in 1992. She was awarded credentials in Early Childhood Education in 2002. Later, she re-enrolled in college to pursue Child Care Director Credential. Julia worked in childcare for over 30 years. She was united in holy matrimony on February 23, 2002 to William Bernard Torrance and enjoyed over 20 years of wedded bliss. They enjoyed their children and grandchildren until her transition. Julia was a faithful member of The Palatka House of God Church, under the leadership of Bishop Gilbert L. Evans, Jr. She served as a Greeter which allowed her to display her well known bright smile that would light up any room. She took pride in being a "House Of God Greeter."
Julia was preceded in eternal rest by her mother Janie M. Nixon, father, Larry Batts, Sr.; brother Lorenzo Batts, I.
Cherished and precious memories of Julia remain with: husband of 20 years, William B. Torrance; cherished sons, Dmarquis (Tara) Vreen, Gainesville; John (Tymeeka) Young, Jr., Interlachen; Corey Young, Orange Park; William Torrance. Jr., Kaleb Torrance, both of Gainesville; devoted daughters, Evangelist Katrina (Darryl) Simmons, Julia (Ernest) McCracken; father, Rev. Lemon (Bernadine) Nixon, Sr.; sisters, Deborah Poole, Mary Gilmore, both of Palatka; Victoria (Charles) Anderson, Pamela (Robert) Green, Velaska (Stewart) Barnett, all of Jacksonville; brothers, Larry Batts, James Robinson, both of Palatka; Lemon (Yolanda) Nixon, Jr.; 15 adorable grandchildren whom she greatly adored, Ricazia Frison, Rishard Frison, Camiya Wright, Cedric Wright, Jr., Kalani Vreen, Kaleb Vreen, Kaiden Vreen, Khaila Vreen, Jayden Young, Trenton Young, Imani Young, Kasiyah White, Bella Maytayor, Carmen Holcy, Kamari McCracken; like a sister, Toye Canty, Missionary Diana Williams, Sandra Matthews, Elder Valaria Murray, Betty Reigh and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives who will carry pieces of her spirit and her legacy of love and kindness in their hearts forever as an enduring light of love and strength.
Visitation of family and friends will be held from 5-7 p.m., Friday, May 30, at The Palatka House of God Church, 723 North 19th St, Palatka. A Celebration of Life will commence at 4 p.m., Saturday, May 31, at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Ave, Palatka, Rev. Karl N. Flagg, Pastor. Her Pastor, Bishop G. L. Evans, Jr., Palatka House of God Church, is the eulogist. Interment will follow in Oak Hill West Cemetery.
