Deaconess Josephine “Joe Babe” Evans Blocker, 85, of Crescent City, entered the sunset of life on Friday, April 3, 2026 at HCA Florida Putnam Hospital. The daughter of Ever Mae Thompson, she was born on Monday, November 18, 1940, in Crescent City. She was educated in the Putnam County School District. Josephine was married to James Blocker.
In her early 30s, she received salvation and was filled with the Holy Ghost. She was a member of the House of God Church where she served faithfully as a Deaconess and in many other capacities. Prior to retirement, Josephine was employed as a cafeteria worker with the Putnam County School District.
Josephine is at peace with God now and rejoicing in His happy heavenly home.
She was preceded in eternal rest by her parents, McKinley, Sr. and Ever Mae Evans; father, James Barnes; sisters, Mary Lois Holman, Dorothy Power and Emma Williams; brothers, Willie “Bubba” Evans, Lemar “Fuzzy” Evans, William James Kirkland and Dennis Gregory Barnes; granddaughter, Nyiesha Nelson; great-grandson, Keimontrae Nelson;.
She leaves to cherish her memories: daughters and sons, Dolly Leftwich, Annette Blocker, Zandra Nelson, Harry (Carolyn) Banks, Efrem (Sabrina) Banks, Lorenzo Banks; brothers, Gilbert Evans, McKinley Evans, Jr. (Yasmin Willis, dedicated friend), Theodore (Brenda) Evans, Billy (Louis) Williams, Eddie (Marilyn) Milton, Jr., Murray (Gay) Barnes, Ronald (Patricia) Barnes, Bruce (Alice) Barnes, Byron Barnes; sisters, Betty E. (Carl, Sr.) Smith, Debra Barnes, Diane Barnes; step-mother, Agnes Barnes; sisters-in-law, Willie Mae Ryner and Linda Cross; and a host of loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
