Mother Josephine Rivers Allen, 93, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center. A native of Sims Chapel, AL, she was the daughter of Ozie Rivers, Sr., and Mattie Myles, born on Friday, February 10, 1928. She was educated in the Washington County, AL School System. She was united in marriage to Leroy Allen. Her family relocated to Putnam County, FL from Dothan AL. She accepted Christ many years ago and was a longtime member, Church Mother and Deaconess at First Born Church of the Living God under the pastoral leadership of Bishop Walter Levi Smith. In recent times, she was attending Pentecostal Church of God in Christ. She was employed for many years as a migrant worker until she retired. Her hobbies included fishing, gardening and doing yardwork. "Mother Allen" enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband , she was preceded in eternal rest by her son , Al Allen, Essit Earl Jones; daughters , Lenette Allen, Betty Ann Baker; brother , Ozie Rivers, Jr.; and sisters , Ethel Mae Neeley, Katie Lee Barber.
She leaves to cherish her memories: daughters , Gewel Jackson, Elese Calhoun, Deloris (Wallace, Sr.) Lookadoo, Edna Allen; son, Leroy Allen, Jr.; 19 grandchildren ; a host of great-grandchildren ; numerous nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
In compliance with CDC COVID-19 guidelines (masks/social distancing required) visitation from 5:30 - 7 p.m., Friday, February 19 at Pentecostal COGIC, 624 North 9 th Street, Palatka. Celebration of Life will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, February 20 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity," Elder Earl Matthews, Pastor, Pentecostal COGIC, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Palatka Memorial Gardens.
