Joseph Jo-Jo Williams, 77, of East Palatka entered the sunset of life on Friday, November 6, 2009 at NE Florida Community Hospice, Acosta-Rua Caring Center in Jacksonville following a brief illness. The son of Harry Williams, Sr., and Clara Williams-Brown, Joseph was a native of Armstrong (St. Johns County) and a longtime East Palatka resident. He graduated from Central Academy High School in 1953. He was inducted in the United States Army on September 8, 1953 and served honorably during the Korean War. He was an avid Florida Gator fan. Joseph accepted Christ as his Savior, was baptized at Calvary Baptist Church in Palatka, and later joined the Usher Board. He was united in holy matrimony to Hazel Smith-Williams, who preceded him. Joseph was employed with Georgia Pacific Plywood plant in Hawthorne for over 24 years until he retired on June 17, 2009.
In addition to his parents and wife, Joseph is preceded in eternal rest by his sons, Lloyd Haynesworth and Freddie Brown; and brothers, Harry Williams, Jr. and Earnest Williams.
He leaves to cherish his memories; Children: Betty (Roosevelt) Reese, Waycross, GA; Claretha (Mark) Flowers, Miami; Josephine Williams, Adel, GA; Carl Lewis, Palatka; Vernita (Kenneth) Lane; Veronica (Don) Lane, both of Daytona Beach; Bernard Lewis, Palatka; Sheena Williams, Atlanta, GA; Estalita Williams, Orlando; Schywann (Don) Williams, Melbourne; Sabrina Williams, Gainesville; and Joezar Williams, Palatka; Foster son, Quentin Beckton, St Augustine; Aunt, Helen Brown, East Palatka; Uncle, Willie Brown, Jacksonville; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, November 13, at the Chapel of Serenity.
Homegoing Celebration will be 2 p.m. Saturday, November 14th at the Chapel of Serenity 2400 Madison St., Elder Otis Moody, Pastor of Congregational First Born Church, Waycross, GA., is the eulogist.
Interment with military honors will be 9:30 a.m. Monday November 16, in the Jacksonville National Cemetery.
