Obituary

Joseph "Joe" Walker, was born on Monday, September 30, 1957 in Palatka, FL. The son of Mildred (Hankins) Walker and Arliss C. Walker, Sr. Joseph was the youngest of eight siblings. He was educated in the Putnam County School District.  After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving as a Communications Specialist. This position suited him well as Joseph found pleasure in hooking up equipment and electronics. On July 27, 1989, Joseph united in marriage to the former Johnetta Belton in Palatka. They remained in love for over 30 years and became the loving parents of two children and a grandson.

Joseph Walker was a jack of all trades, with a passion for cooking.  He most notably worked as a chef at the town's favorite restaurant, Golden Corral, in Jacksonville. Joseph spent a lot of his time mastering his craft in music and was a highly skilled and talented percussionist, songwriter, and self-taught organist. He has passed down his love for playing drums by mentoring many of the youth in the churches he was affiliated with. Joseph Dean's passion for music brought him together with his longtime friend, Greg Johnson, and they both went on to play in the band "Higher Heights". He was a former member of To God Be the Glory Holiness Church.

In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in eternal rest by three of his sisters, Carliss, Cynthia and Mary.  He gained his wings on Friday, February 7, 2025, at Gainesville Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Joseph leaves to cherish his memories: wife, Johnetta Walker; a loving daughter, Johnitta Walker; son, James Walker; grandson, Josiah C. H. Walker; brother, Arliss C. (Connie Faye), Walker, Jr. , Orange Park; sisters, Kathy (John) Harris, Pamela (Gerald) Conley, Evangelist Pamela (Lorenzo) Smith, all of Palatka; uncle, Rev. Nathaniel Hankins, Dallas, TX; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ernest (Debbie) Belton, Jacksonville, Daisy (Brian) McClellan, Jacksonville; Marquita (Larry) Smith, Miami; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and caring friends.

Visitation of family and friends will be held from 3-4 p.m., with a Celebration of Joseph's Life commencing at 4 p.m., on Friday, February 21, 2025 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." His brother, Arliss C. Walker, Jr., is the eulogist. Interment will be 9:30 a.m., Monday, February 24, 2025 at the Jacksonville National Cemetery.
