Obituary

Joseph Arthur "Joe" Lane, 68, of Palatka, had already answered the eternal call on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at his residence. The son of Reverend Willie & Rosa (Watts) Lane, Sr., Joe was born on Monday, May 17, 1948 in Palatka. He was a 1966 graduate of Central Academy High School and subsequently enlisted into the United States Marine Corps and served during the Vietnam Era. Cpl. (E-4) Joseph Lane earned numerous medallions, including National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and Rifle Marksman Badge. Upon his return to Palatka, he became a Tissue Shipping employee at Hudson Pulp & Paper Mill (Georgia-Pacific), retiring after 46 years of dedicated service. Joe is preceded in eternal rest by his father.

He leaves to cherish his memories: devoted mother, Rosa B. Lane, Palatka; sons, Joseph Delvon Lane, Palatka, Rodricka Russell, Tampa; step-sons, Carroll Lee Jones, Jr., Alan (Dawn) Morris Jones, both of Charles City, VA; 12 grandchildren, Tyri Russell, Rodricka Reshon Russell Jr., Aniya Russell, Tony Hart, T'airra B. Lane, Taniya A. Lane, Trevor Jones, Avery Jones, Kyle Jones, Nicholas Adkins, Alan Jones Jr., and Cherise Jones; sisters, Priscilla Appling, Palatka; Minnie Means, Hayneville AL; Ann (Earnest) Lane-Smith, Jacksonville; Rosa Marie (Daniel) Brown, Suffolk, VA; Margo (James) Torain, Norristown, PA; Norma Jean (Pastor Arthur) Davenport, Rockville Center, NY; brothers: Rev. Willie (Fay) Lane, Jr., Brooklyn NY; James Alexander Lane, Brooklyn, NY; aunt, Catherine Ewing, Waco TX; ; special god-sister, Wilma Wiggs, Tallahassee; and former wife, Anna Hadkins Lane, Palatka; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Celebration of Life with Military Honors will be 2 p.m., Saturday, October 22, at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 322 North 10th Street, Palatka, Reverend Frederick T. Demps, Pastor. Elder Alonzo Mulberry, Pastor, Soul Mission Church of God in Christ, Palatka, is the Eulogist. Minister Chris Lee, Associate Minister, Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, presiding. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery.
