Joseph M. Jackson, Sr., 66, of Orange Park, entered the sunset of life on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at Community Hospice Palliative Care Douglas Center for Caring, Jacksonville. The son of Joseph Blackshear Jackson and Betsy Youngblood, he was born on Monday, January 2, 1956 in Cleveland, Ohio. Joseph was of the Baptist faith. He was educated in the Glenville County, Ohio School District and continued his education at the University of Phoenix where he earned his bachelor's degree. Subsequently, SSGT Jackson E-6 enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp and earned the Good Conduct Medal, Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, Pistol Expert Badge, Meritorious Mast, Certificate of Commendation, Sea Service & Deployment Ribbon, and National Defense Service Medal. He was employed by the Federal Government as a Social Security Administrator. Joseph enjoyed soccer, chess, cooking, karate, and spending time with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in eternal rest by his sister, Santa Jackson.
He leaves to cherish his memories: loving wife, Rosemary "Rose" Jackson, Orange Park; son, Joseph M. Jackson, Jr.; daughters, Santa Jackson, Vera (Ben) Jones, Kanika Thomas, Ebony (Michael) Jenkins, Shaquila (Brandon) Bullard; 9 grandchildren, Runiesha (Juan), Shanice, Alexis, Lavel Jr., Cayla, Michael, Marilyn, Brandon Jr., Brayden; 5 brothers, Eddy (Nettie) Martin, Howard (Wendy) Smith, Isadora (Elsie) Smith, David (Benita) Smith, Rodney Youngblood; 3 sisters, Denise (Melvin) Jackson, Joyce Sumlin, Jackie Youngblood; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be 1 p.m., Friday, November 25, at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville. Elder Steven Mitchell, Shiloh Baptist Church, Orange Park, is the eulogist.
