Obituary

Joseph Alphonso "Joe" Campbell, 68, of Daytona Beach, entered the sunset of life on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Kindred Hospital-North Florida, Green Cove Springs, FL. The son of Rudolph Porter and Victoria Campbell, he was a native of Hastings, born on Monday, November 27, 1950. He was a 1969 graduate of Walter E. Harris High School, Hastings, and subsequently attended Bethune Cookman College, Daytona Beach, and North Carolina Central University in North Carolina where he earned a Master's degree in Library Science. He was a member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity. Joe was a retired Reference Librarian at Bethune Cookman University, Daytona Beach. He truly enjoyed his family and his hobbies included fishing and riding motorcycles. He was of the Baptist faith and during his early years he attended the family's church, Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Spuds.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in eternal rest by his brother, Epheriam Campbell; sister, Kimberly Shanita Campbell; godparents, Martha Burrows and Marian Speight.

To cherish and treasure Joseph's memories: father, Rudolph Porter, Hastings; son, Joseph Jerrell Campbell II, Tampa; siblings, Frankie (Faye) Threet, Alveta Campbell, Tony Campbell and Tanya Jackson, all of Hastings; Bruce Campbell, Australia Campbell and Glenda Williams, all of Jacksonville; Deborah Threet, Port St. Lucie; Cornester Terry, Gainesville; Erika Nesbit, Atlanta, GA; Paurette Porter, Jamaica, NY; Arleathea Porter, Long Island, NY; numerous aunts & uncles including, Lawrence (Marian) Campbell, Denver, CO; godson/nephew, Keegan Campbell; god-sisters, Pamela Brooks, Janet Mattox, both of Hastings; grandchildren, Kaven Johnson, Cameron Johnson; stepchildren, DJ, Demetrious, Rosa, Latrell Johnson, Kelley Bolling; caring friends, Camille Ramsey, Priscilla Campbell, Veronica Campbell; lifelong friends, Ervin Ross, Daytona Beach; Theophilus Jackson, Bishop Thomas Cave, both of Hastings, Willie Mae Willis-Steward, Elkton; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins and other caring relatives and many sorrowing friends and extended family members.

Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m., Friday, May 10 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Celebration of Joseph's Life will be 11 a.m., Saturday, May 11 at The Lord's Temple, 140 Gilmore Street, Hastings, Bishop Thomas Cave, III, Pastor. Elder Veronica Campbell, Associate Minister of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Gainesville, officiating. Interment will be in Palatka Memorial Gardens.
