Jose Carlos Garcia, 100, of Palatka (former Satsuma resident) entered the sunset of life on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at Putnam Caregivers (Assisted Living Facility) of Palatka. A native of San Jose De Idolos, Guatemala, he was the son of Simon and Vivian (Depalencia) Garcia, born on Sunday, September 6, 1914. During his early childhood he worked on his dad's farm. Jose loved farm animals, especially horses, sheep, and chickens. He was a cowboy who was very passionate about riding horses. He was a truck driver, employed by Tipik (a steel company). He was an entrepreneur who operated a Texaco fuel transporting company throughout Central America. In 1965, he migrated to the United States and subsequently returned to Guatemala to get his family, driving seven days straight, stopping in every city to sample the food. They initially resided in New York City where he became a supervisor at National Cleaning Contractors until retirement. He was a member of Iglesia De Dios Pentecostal Monte Sinai of Seville and attended Abundant Life Ministries of Palatka with his son, Carlos and family. His love and mission was to help the poor and less fortunate. He was preceded in eternal rest by his wife, Maria Garcia; and grandson Juan Garcia. He leaves to cherish his memories: his children, Carlos (Denise) Garcia, Felipe (Rhonda) Garcia, Vivian Garcia, Kelvin Garcia, all of Palatka; Alba Hilton, Marbely Hilton, Manhattan, NY; Irma (Daniel) Narvarro, Chicago, IL; 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m., Friday, June 5, at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 6, at Abundant Life Ministries, 890 North, SR 19, Palatka, Chad Willis, Pastor, Associate Pastor, Chris Lee, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery, Palatka.
