Johnson Session,
Sr.
April 16, 1945 – March 4, 2021
Johnson Session, Sr., 75, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at Haven Hospice, Roberts Care Center, Palatka. A native of Roy, (Yelvington area) FL, he was the son of Sam Session, Sr. and Maybell James Session, born on April 16, 1945. He was educated in the Putnam County School System and a 1964 graduate of Central Academy High School. Immediately after graduation, he became a referee/umpire in the FIAA for high school basketball, football, and baseball and continued to referee through the FIAA merger with the FHSAA. Johnson also served as a collegiate softball and basketball referee for Bethune-Cookman, St. Johns River and Santa Fe Colleges, respectively. He also coached City League basketball and baseball for 26 years as well as Pop Warner Football for 3 years. He truly enjoyed working with youthful and young people. He was very athletic and played softball for years on the adult men city league teams, including the Palatka As, Simmons As, and Palatka Red Sox teams.
Johnson was a longtime member of Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church and was also a former church Trustee. He was a faithful Usher and was very dedicated to the site selection committee and building committee who sought out Mt. Tabor sanctuary's present location.
Johnson was employed by Georgia-Pacific Corporation (formerly Hudson Pulp & Paper Mill), Tissue Converting Department, where he was employed with over 38 years of meritorious service, retiring in 2007. Johnson was an avid fisherman and sportsman who enjoyed spending time with family, watching old westerns and really loved all varieties of sports and listening to music. He was a loyal Florida Gators fan, devoted Seattle Seahawks fan and also liked the Washington Redskins and Jacksonville Jaguars.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in eternal rest by his sons, Willie C. Session, Williezell Session; grandson , Lil' Larry Lamar Session; brothers, Johnnie B. Session, Willie Lee Session, Leroy (Rita) Session, Sam Session, Jr., Billy Session, Robert Session and Lloyd Session.
He leaves to cherish his memories: devoted wife , Linda Givens Session; sons and daughters , Larry (Michelle) Session, Gregory Session, Sharon (John L) Session-Williams, Anthony Session, Kenneth Session, Thirus (Delores) Jones, Lakesha Session, Johnson Session, Jr., Kedric Session, Jeremy Session, Jasmine Session, Kabrisha Session, Kizzy L. Watkins, Erica L. (Earnest) Fortson; sister, Betty Session; brothers , Izell (Jean) Session and Elijah (Karen) Session; sister-in-law , Fannie Session; mother-in-law , Elouise D. Romer; 40 grandchildren ; 14 great grandchildren ; godchildren, Ashley Givens, Danielle Grimes, Antoinette Youmans, Kenisha Johnson, Rashad Hill, Marcus Hicks, Darius Gilyard, Sincere Tobler, and Loyalty Hall; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In compliance with CDC COVID-19 guidelines (including required masks) a socially-distanced visitation will be held 5 – 7 p.m., Friday, March 12 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." A Celebration of Johnson's Life will be held graveside 11 a.m., Saturday, March 13 at Resthaven Cemetery, 690 Old San Mateo Road, San Mateo. Reverend Karl N. Flagg, Senior Pastor, Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, is the eulogist.
