Obituary

Reverend Johnny Mae Evans Hauser, 85, of St. Augustine, entered the sunset of life on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at her residence surrounded by her devoted children. The daughter of John T. and Rev. Dr. Precious (Mobley) Evans, she was born on Thursday, November 10, 1938, in Gainesville. She received her early education in the Alachua County School District, Gainesville, where she was a leading soloist in her school's choir. Upon completing her high school education, she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Florida Memorial College, St. Augustine, Florida. She subsequently taught kindergarten and third grade at W.E. Harris Elementary School in Hastings, FL. "The Veteran Teacher," as referred to by the St. Johns County Public School District, taught students on every elementary grade level while assigned to R.B. Hunt Elementary School and Ketterlinus Elementary School. After more than 30 years of teaching, She retired in February of 1997.

Reverend Hauser began her walk with Christ at an early age at Springhill Missionary Baptist Church, Gainesville. Upon moving to St. Augustine for college, she joined St. Paul AME church, where she started out singing in the No. 2 choir, later serving as the church's choir director for several decades. Numerous generations remember her for her weekly newspaper announcement articles for her church recitals throughout various churches around St. Augustine, FL. Reverend Hauser had a heart to serve God and the church. She also served as the musician at The Church of the Kingdom Of God Ext. 7, Palatka, FL, where her mother served as the pastor, as well as serving as a choir member and Sunday School teacher at United Missionary Baptist Church, Toledo, OH. After answering the call to preach God's Word, she was ordained by the Ordination Council of Toledo at United Missionary Baptist Church on June 29th, 2008.

She is a Life Member of Phi Delta Kappa Sorority Incorporated, a professional organization of women in the field of education. She held the office of 2nd Anti-Basileus in the St. Augustine Gamma Eta chapter. She was also an active member of the St. Johns Education Association.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in eternal rest by her siblings Earnest T. Clarke, John R. Evans, Marjorie J. Ayers, and Lelia Ann White.

She leaves to cherish her love in their hearts: sons and daughter, Myron (LaTrina) Evans, St. Augustine; Glynis (Arnold) Hauser-Palmer, Clarksville, TN; Roderick (LaTosha) Hauser, Clearwater; grandchildren, Dr. Myron Evans II, Seattle, WA; SFC Tyler Henderson (U.S. Army), Ft. Leavenworth, KS; Roderick Hauser, Jr., Lily Hauser; goddaughter, Drina Cohen and numerous faithful, loving, and caring nieces, nephews, cousins, sorors, and friends.

Visitation: 5-7 PM, Friday, February 23; Celebration of Life: 11 AM, Saturday, February 24, at St. Paul A.M.E. Church, 85 M. L. King Ave, St. Augustine, Rev. Dr. Alesia Ford-Burse, Pastor, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, St. Augustine.
