Johnnie "Johnnie Boo" Smith, 66, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at his residence. The son of George H. and Sarah E. (Sheppard) Smith, he was born on Tuesday, October 27, 1953 in Exmore, VA. Johnnie was educated in the Northampton County, VA School District. He was a retired truck driver/heavy equipment operator with Statewide Paving Company for 20 years and retired from the City of Palatka Public Works Department. Johnnie was a member and Deacon at Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church, Palatka. He was a formerly affiliated with Sturwell Lodge #348 F & A.M., Hastings. "Johnnie Boo" was an auto repairman, enjoyed being a DJ for special events and his hobbies included fishing and drag racing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in eternal rest by his maternal grandparents, Augusta and Elsie Mae Sheppard; paternal grandparents, Johnnie and Fannie Smith; brother, Wilbert Smith; and nephew, Nakia "Kese" Smith.
He leaves to cherish his memories: devoted wife of 41 years, Josephine M. Smith, Palatka; daughters, Kimberly L. Offord, Garsha S. (Willie Joe) King, both of Palatka; Tangankia Evans, Salisbury, MD; SFC(P) Ja'Vonna L. Smith, U.S. Army stationed at Camp Henry, South Korea; son, Reggie Rich, St. Augustine; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brothers, George (Sandra) Smith, Jr., Parksley, VA; Charlie Smith, Larry (Jessie) Smith, Lake Wales; Alfonso Smith, Elizabeth City, NC; Albert Smith, Harrogate, England; sisters, Fannie Smith, Alice (Cleveland) Jones, both of Painter, VA; son-in-law, Willie Joe King, Palatka; brother-in-law, Alfred (Maxine) Daniels, Sr., Jacksonville; sister-in-law, Brenda Smith, Painter, VA; godchildren, Quiana Robinson, Savannah, GA; Terry Marshall, Palm Coast; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation of family and friends will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, December 13, at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be 2 p.m., Saturday, December 14, at Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church, 1501 Bronson Street, Palatka, Elder J.C. Tookes, pastor. Reverend Clarence Williams, Pastor of Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Oak Hill East Cemetery.
