Johnnie Cornell King, Sr., 83, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Shands at UF, Gainesville. A native of Surrency (Appling County), Georgia, he was born on Thursday, November 22, 1929 to Willie and Beatrice Boykin King. He was educated in the Glynn County GA school system. Johnnie was a longtime logging truck driver and upon retirement became a Green Thumb worker (now Experience Works) for the City of Palatka Parks Department at Oak Hill Cemetery for several years. He thoroughly enjoyed his life, socializing with friends, fishing, and gardening. In addition to his parents, Johnnie was preceded in eternal rest by his wife, Myrtice King; sisters, Willie Bee Jones, Mary Lee Solomon, Claretha Smith, Rosina Carter, Minnie Lee King, Margret Smith and Inez Grant; brothers, Roderick King and Daniel King; granddaughter, Sabrina King. To cherish his memories: children, Zelene (Rev. Columbus) Burns, Savannah, GA, Wilbert (Isabelle) Mumford, Baxley, GA., Beatrice King, Miami, Lawrence (Gail) Garvin, PA, Johnny King, Jr. Eugene (Debra) King Sr., Katrina (Terence) Williams, Frank (Katrina) Bell, Alfreida King Williams, Doretha Mims, and Aundray King, all of Palatka; brother, Issac Jones, Wilmington, DE; sister, Geraldine Jones; friend, Della Holcy; sister-in-law, Linda Shoemaker; brothers-in-law, Norris Shoemaker and James Shoemaker; 27 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and other caring family members and friends. Visitation of family and friends will be from 5 -8 p.m. Friday, May 3 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be 1 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at Pentecostal Church of God in Christ, 624 North 9th Street, Superintendent Johnny Shaw, pastor. His grandson, Elder Roderick King, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Oak Hill East Cemetery.
