John Wilbur Hughes, 67, of Fruitland, entered the sunset of life on Monday, June 15, 2015 at his residence. A native of Louisa, KY, he was the son of Henry C. and Neva (Hammond) Hughes, born on Saturday, September 13, 1947. He was educated in the Lawrence County, Kentucky School District. In the early 1970s, John relocated to the Daytona Beach, Florida area and subsequently moved to Fruitland in 1983. John's favorite hobbies included singing, playing the guitar, fishing, watching westerns and Animal Planet. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and young children in the community. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in eternal rest by three brothers, Ervin Hughes, William Anderson Hughes, Henry Jeff Hughes; three sisters, Mildred Irene Hughes (Rule), Norma Renie Hughes (Presley), Shelby Jean Hughes. He leaves to cherish his memories: devoted wife of 48 years, Hester Lowe Hughes, Fruitland; daughters, Sonya (Leslie) Horsley, Satsuma; Amanda Smiley (Robert Eubank), Georgetown; 6 grandchildren; brothers, Robert Hughes, Marion, OH; Thomas (Libby) Hughes, Barberville; sister, Rebecca Hughes, Orville, OH; and a host of other relatives and friends. A Memorial Tribute & Celebration in honor of John's life will be 2 p.m., Saturday, June 20 at First Baptist Church of Pomona Park, 112 Holly Avenue, Pomona Park, Reverend Gary Munson, Pastor, Officiating.
