John Grady Gillis, 83, of Interlachen, entered the sunset of life on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at his residence. The son of Grady and Edna Mae (Todd) Gillis, he was born on Wednesday, July 24, 1940 in New Smyrna Beach, FL. He was a 1957 graduate of Tech High School. John enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1958. He was of the Baptist faith and he enjoyed fishing, gardening, camping, woodworking, and singing. John was employed by Jacksonville Electrical Company for 25 years.
He was preceded in eternal rest by his parents.
He leaves to cherish his memories: wife, Cynthia S, Gillis; sons and daughters, John Richard "Ricky" (Theresa) Gillis, Marian (Gary) Cross, Michelle (Darrell, Sr.) Bullard, Aaron Michael Farr, Catrina Rena (Robert, Jr.) McCoy; 12 grandchildren, Sabrina Carter, Noah Cross, Kiersten Cross, Deanna Bullard, Darrell Bullard, Jr., Leigh Ann, Ashley, Aaron, Jr., John Murrow, Tristan Murrow, Shyanne McCoy, Brandyn McCoy; 14 great grandchildren; brother, Charlie Lewis (Pat) Gillis; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A celebration of John's life will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 23, at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity" with a visitation of family and friends an hour prior. Rev. Ricky Bybee, officiating. Interment will be in Palatka Memorial Gardens.
