Obituary

John Joseph "Jack" Delaney III, 78, of Georgetown (Whispering Pines), entered the sunset of life on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at Gaston Memorial Hospital, Gastonia, NC, following an extended illness. The son of John & Juliette (Ribordy) Delaney, Jr., he was born on Friday, February 9, 1934 in Englewood, NJ. Jack, as he was known, was raised Catholic. In his early years, he was a member of the Air Force Services. He also drove a bus in New York City. In 1970, he relocated to Florida and retired after 18 years with Oakley Transport, Lake Wales. He was a board member of, The Whispering Pines Association and Azalea Region Antique Car Club, Palatka; was a member of the Irish/American Cultural Society of Central Florida, Maitland. He was married to the former Dorothy Jane Wright. He mostly enjoyed trips with the car club, participating in parades with his 1939 Jaguar (Replica), growing flowers, plants and taking care of his home. He was full of wit and humor and always made people laugh. Those who cherish his memories; devoted wife of 15 years, Dorothy Delaney, Georgetown; stepchildren, Ken (Lynn) Morgan, Carrollton, UA; Becky (Wayne) Bauer, Rutledge, TN; Joanie Carter, Deland, FL; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Faye (Mike) Shreves, Orange City; Sandy (Ronnie) Howell, Pampa, TX; Terry Hirt, Osteen and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Memorial Celebration will be 2 p.m. Friday, January 11th at the "Chapel of Serenity", 2400 Madison Street, Palatka. Please make all donations payable to Georgetown-Fruitland Volunteer Fire Department.
