Obituary

John Douglas Campbell, Jr., 64, of St. Augustine, entered the sunset of life on Friday, March 22 at Memorial Hospital, Jacksonville. A native of Hastings, John was born on Sunday, December 19, 1948 to John Douglas Campbell, Sr., & Estella James Campbell. He attended Walter E. Harris High School, Hastings (Class of 1968). He was a lifelong resident of St. Johns County, residing in Hastings for over 50 years and in St. Augustine for the past 10 years. He was a member of Lighthouse Church of God, St. Augustine, where he served on the Usher's Board. John was employed as a construction laborer and his hobbies included fishing, detailing automobiles and spending time with his family. John was preceded in eternal rest by his beloved parents. To cherish his memories: wife, Dorothy Calloway Campbell, Palatka; devoted daughter, Phyllis D. Campbell, St. Augustine; daughters, Christina LaTonya Campbell, Darlene (Johnny) Campbell, and Sabrina (Jeremiah) Campbell, all of Palatka; sons, John Dexter Calloway, Palatka; Wayne (Jeanna) Campbell, Palm Coast; Michael (Kizzy) Campbell, Tampa; Maurice Campbell, Daytona Beach; devoted sisters, Rosann (Ronald) Williams and Beatrice (Kelvin) Williams, Hastings; brother, Charles Wesley Campbell, Sr., Miami; 14 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; devoted friend, Claude Varnes, Hastings; beloved special friend, Anna McDuffey, St. Augustine, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and caring friends. Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, March 29 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity". Homegoing Celebration will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 30, at Lighthouse Church of God, 1230 Kings Estate Rd., St. Augustine, Bishop LaVoy Newton, Jr., pastor is the eulogist. Interment will be in Pattersonville Memorial Cemetery, East Palatka. The cortege will assemble at the church at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
