John Torrance "JJ" Brooks, 38, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of Palatka, "JJ" was born on Monday, March 3, 1975. He was a 1994 graduate of Palatka High School. At an early age, he was baptized at Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church. He was a former State of Florida Correctional Officer serving at Union Correctional Institution, Raiford, FL. He was a truck driver with Werner Brothers Trucking Company and Shelton Trucking Company. His hobbies included spending time with his family and he enjoyed singing. He was preceded in eternal rest by his father, Andrew Williams; grandparents, John (Fannie) Brooks, Mossie (Thelma) McCray; like-a-father, Arnold Anderson. Those who will forever cherish his memories: Mother, Sandra Brooks, Fiancée, Elena Anderson; Sons, Dorrian Brooks, Jy'rese Brooks; Daughter, LeAsia Brooks, all of Palatka; Brothers, Mossie (Pamela) Brooks, Kederick (Shante) Brooks, George Williams, Jaron Williams, and Terell Anderson, all of Palatka; Sisters, Shirley (Eric) Brooks, LaToya (Dexter) Fields, and Sabrina Leonard, all of Palatka; like-a-mother, Erma Dean, Palatka; and a host of other relatives and caring friends, especially Mike Robinson and Clem Moseley. Visitation of family and friends will be from 5 -8 p.m. Friday, May 24th at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be 4 p.m. Saturday, May 25th, at the Palatka House of God Church, 723 N. 19 Street, Palatka, Dr. Gilbert L. Evans, Jr., Pastor, presiding. Reverend Dr. Andrew McRae, Sr. of Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, Gainesville is the Eulogist. The cortege will assemble 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Brooks Family residence, 506 N. 22nd Street Apt C-175, Palatka. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery.
