Mother Jimmie Lee Wilson, 98, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Tuesday, Febuary 9 at her daughters residence following an extended illness. She was a native of Greenville, FL, born Tuesday, January 9, 1912 to James and Estella (Conish) Calhoun. She accepted Christ as her personal Saviour at an early age and received the baptism of the Holy Ghost in 1935 under the leadership of Elder Toby Pop Crosby at Refuge Church of our Lord Jesus Christ. As a faithful servant of God at the Refuge Church for over 75 years, she was the oldest surviving member of the church and served in multiple ministries including Missionary Board President, Womens Council, Deaconess Board, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher and Church Secretary. She was employed by the Mary Pounds family for many years until her health prevailed. Mother Wilson loved the Lord, her family and community. She enjoyed gospel music, singing and being in the House of worship.
Mother Wilson was preceded in eternal rest by her parents; husband, Doc Wilson; sisters, Leola Calhoun, Ethel Lee Calhoun, Dorothy Calhoun, brothers, David Calhoun, James Calhoun Jr., and Grandson, Arthur Nelson.
She leaves to cherish her memories: Loving and devoted Daughters, Olivia (Samuel) Nelson; Marion Williams both of Palatka; 11 grandchildren: Queen Ester (Johnnie) Simmons, Pomona Park; Patricia Hood, Gulfport, MS; Carlton D. Smith Sr., Tangia Nelson, Denise Turner, James Robert Nelson Sr., Connie (Andrew) Burton and Tilisa (Eugene) Ledbetter, all of Palatka; Samuel (Chenice) Nelson, South Carolina; Leonard Taylor, Germany; 39 great-grandchildren; 59 great-great grandchildren; 1 great-great-great granddaughter and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Visitation of family and Friends will be Friday (today) 5-8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. -1 p.m. at the Chapel of Serenity. Homegoing Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, February 13 at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka. Apostle Gentle L. Groover Sr., presiding Bishop, Greater Refuge Temple Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith, is the eulogist and Dr. Derrick Roberts, presiding. The cortege will assemble at 2:20 p.m. at her daughter Marion Williams residence, 2604 W. Main Street, Palatka. Interment will be in Pattersonville Memorial Cemetery, East Palatka.
