Jimmie W. McLeod, 68, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center, Palatka. A native of Baxley, GA., Jimmie was the son of Lillian Constance McLeod and Eddie Lee Rogers, born on Thursday, July 18, 1946. He was educated in the Appling County (Baxley, GA) School District. In 1963, Jimmie enlisted in the United States Navy and served honorably for 20 years until retirement in 1983. Attaining the rank of E-6, Jimmie earned numerous decorations and citations before his honorable discharge and as a Mess Specialist (Master Chef) he was awarded the Navy Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. On August 30, 1971, he was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Joyce Ann Metze. He was formerly employed with Rodeheaver's Boys' Ranch for 6 years and subsequently served at the Putnam County Sheriff's Office as a Master Chef, retiring September 30, 2005. Jimmie was a faithful member of Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, serving in the Men's Ministry, Usher Ministry and as a past president of the Food Service Ministry. Jimmie was an active "Charmer" in the St. Johns-Putnam-Flagler Chapter of the Charmettes, Inc.
Jimmie was preceded in eternal rest by his Mothers: Lillian McLeod Matthews and Georgia Rogers; Maternal Grandparents, Frank & Stella McLeod; Paternal Grandparents Hewey & Ethel Rogers; sister, Lynn Price.
To cherish his memories, devoted wife of 43 years, Joyce Ann McLeod, Palatka; loving sons, Jamie McLeod, Orlando; Jason McLeod Sr. (Amanda Lusk), Palatka; father, Eddie Rogers, Baxley, GA; 3 honorary sons, Emmanuel (Jessica) Feggins, Palatka; Freddie Feggins, Gainesville; Howard Feggins, Starke; sisters, Kathy (David) Brock, Orlando; Jackie (Darryl) Dunn, West Palm Beach; brothers, Reggie Smith, Ft. Pierce; Darryl Rogers, Connecticut; grandchildren, J'aime, Brooklyn, Jimmie II, Jason Jr., Shauntalise, Jacob, and Jayden McLeod; honorary grandchildren, Maurus, Monica, and Jesenia Feggins; and host of other relatives and caring friends. Visitation of family & friends will be 5-8 pm Friday, April 24 at Mt. Tabor. Homegoing Celebration with USN Military Honors will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Mount Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka. Reverend Karl N. Flagg, pastor is the Eulogist. Interment will be 1 p.m., Monday, April 27, 2015 at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville.
