(Missionary) Jewel Baskin, 57, of Green Cove Springs, entered the sunset of life unexpectedly during a church mission trip to Africa on Friday, August 9, 2024 at the Hospital of Santa Maria, Lisbon, Portugal.
The daughter of Martha Ann Denson and Mitchell Baskin, she was born on Sunday, September 18, 1966 in Manhattan, New York. She was educated in the Clay County School District and was a 1984 graduate of Clay High School. She attended The Art Institute, Ft. Lauderdale and obtained a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration at Flagler College.
At an early age, Jewel became a member of Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church where she served as an usher, Sunday school teacher/superintendent, and church clerk. She also worked on the finance committee, planning board, and the youth department. Later, Jewel became a member of Hopewell Church, Mandarin under the leadership of Dr. G.L. Williams, Sr. She continued to do the Lord's work as a small group facilitator, missionary and so much more. Jewel was employed by the Clay County Clerk of Court and Comptroller for nearly 39 years. She was a manager in the recording department for 2 years. She enjoyed spending time with her 5 grandchildren, traveling near and far, and reading.
In addition to her parents, Jewel was preceded in eternal rest by her paternal and maternal grandparents.
She leaves to cherish her memories: son, VanQuail K. Williams, Green Cove Springs; grandchildren, Caleb Williams, Caiden Williams, both of Jacksonville; Kenton Williams, Vanya Williams, Kenley Williams; all of Ocala; brothers, Mitchell (Cynthia) Baskin, Jr., San Leandro, CA; Myron (LaShonda) Baskin, Middleburg; sister, Frances Lacue, Ft. Lauderdale; godsisters, ShaTaundia (Anthony) Foreman, Atlanta, GA; LaShana (Marvin) Bowick, Orange Park; goddaughter, Jasmine Pollard Gordon; aunts and uncles, Joyce Denson, Patricia Denson, Porsche Denson, Willie Denson, Winston Denson; and a host of other relatives and close friends.
