Jered Jerome Nichols, 44, of Green Cove Springs, entered the sunset of life on Monday, November 13, 2023 in Green Cove Springs. The son of Henry and Janie (Houston) Nichols, he was born on Thursday, February 1, 1979 in Jacksonville, FL. He resided in Pier Station and later relocated to Green Cove Springs. He was educated in the Clay County School District at Clay High School. At an early age, he was baptized and became a member of New Bethel Baptist Church, Pier Station where he served on the Usher Board. He subsequently joined Kingdom of God Tabernacle Holiness Church, Pier Station, under the leadership of Pastor Mildred Snell, and later joined First Baptist Church in Clarksville, TN. He was employed by fast food restaurants and in the construction industry. He loved basketball and cooking. He will be forever loved and missed.
In addition to his father, Jered was preceded in eternal rest by his maternal grandparents, Andrew and Janie Houston; paternal grandparents, Bessie and Robert Nichols; aunt, Beulah Nichols, Lucinda "Lucy Lu" Russell; uncles, Ben Nichols, Robert Nichols, Fred R. Houston.
He leaves to cherish his memories: wife, Carol Holmes, Charlotte, SC; stepson, Russell R. Jenkins of Sumter, SC; mother, Janie Nichols of Orange Park; grandmother, Essie Houston of Pier Station; sisters, Sabrina Scriven, Nicole Sheffield, both of Jacksonville; Natasha Nichols of Newberry; uncles, Andrew Houston, Jr., Joe Dean, Horace (Linda) Nichols, Johnny Nichols, all of Starke; aunts, Lovie (Charles) Williams, Annie Perkins, Felecia McCoy, all of Lawtey; Sharon Nichols of Starke; great aunt, Mildred Stitt of New York; nieces, Cor'neak Smith, Tianna Nichols; nephews, Jamal (Mikayla) Houston, Devon Proctor, Rashaun Walker, Corey Smith, Quieron Hunter, Marquez McBride; godsister, Emira Frazier; and a host of other family and close friends.
Visitation will be from 12 noon- 1 p.m., Saturday, December 2; Celebration of Life: 1 p.m., St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 135 Brickyard Rd, Middleburg, FL 32068. Rev. Dr. Abron Marshall is the eulogist. Internment: Mt. Olive Cemetery, Green Cove Springs.
