Jeffrey Alan McCoy, 57, longtime Jacksonville resident, transitioned on Thursday, January 23, 2020. The son of Samuel R. and Mable (Hughes) McCoy, Sr., he was a native of Palatka, FL. Jeffrey was a lifelong member of St. Matthew Baptist Church and previously served as a youth usher. He played on the Forestview Pop Warner football team. He was a graduate of Jean Ribault High School, Class of 1980, lettering in football for 4 years and member of the National Honor Society. In 1984, he earned a B.S. Degree in Business, graduating Summa Cum Laude at FL A & M University, Tallahassee. In January 1986, Jeffrey enlisted in the U. S. Army, serving as a Human Resources Specialist for over 20 years, earning numerous decorations and citations, including Bronze Star, Army Commendation, Army Achievement, Good Conduct, National Defense Service, Global War on Terrorism, Korea Defense, while also serving in Kuwait and Iraq. In July 2006, SFC McCoy entered retirement and earned an honorable discharge. He was an avid NASCAR fan who enjoyed watching war and karate movies. He was employed by Allied as Safety Coordinator.
He was preceded in eternal rest by his brothers , Samuel Ray McCoy, Jr., and Michael A. Hughes (McCoy); paternal grandparents , Frank (Irene) McCoy, Sr., maternal grandparents , Jim H. Hopkins, Sr., Louis (Cleota) Cain, Sr.
To cherish his memories: daughter, Chime're J. Walker; grandchildren, Chime're J. Bryant, Marshon D. Davis, Marliyah D. Davis; parents, Samuel R. and Mable (Hughes) McCoy, Sr.; siblings, Joy Varner and Darryl (Lawanda) McCoy, Jacksonville; Judith (Wayne) Snow, Edmond, OK; sister-in-law, Tracy McCoy, Jacksonville; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 29 th - Homegoing Celebration: Thursday, January 30 th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Matthew Baptist Church, 3811 Moncrief Rd., Jacksonville, Rev. Dr. George A. Price, Pastor, officiating. Interment with full military honors: 1 p.m., Thursday at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in loving memory of Jeffrey A. McCoy should be sent to the American Cancer Society, 1430 Prudential Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32207. Phone: (800) 227-2345.
