Obituary

Jasmine Jaquetta McGee, 20, of Palatka, transitioned on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at her Hawthorne residence due to complications of epilepsy. A native of Palatka, she was born on Monday, July 22, 1991 to Stephen L. Johnson and Sophia L. McGee. Her education commenced at the George Wilson Daycare. Despite the challenges of epilepsy, Jasmine completed her studies at James A. Long Elementary and Moseley Elementary Schools, graduated to Beasley Middle School and advanced to Palatka High School. Following her freshman and sophomore years at PHS, she sought new opportunities and transferred to Englewood High School in Jacksonville, FL. where she joined and loved being a member of the Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC). Upon returning to Putnam County, she was determined to graduate and enrolled in the Drop Back In Academy. Jasmine's favorite pastime involved building and maintaining her "Café World" on Facebook, enjoying good times and laughter with her family, and nurturing her 2 year old cousin, Deviet Keeley. Jasmine was a fashion princess whom we lovingly teased about carrying around an entire health and beauty department in her extra-large purses. Over the years, she attended To God Be the Glory Holiness Church and Rhema Healing and Deliverance Ministries. Those who cherish Jasmine's memories: devoted, loving mother, Sophia L. McGee, Palatka; father, Stephen L. Johnson, Kingston, N.Y.; brother, Lorenzo J. Moore; sisters, Kierra Offord, Shafarrah Davis, all of Palatka; additional siblings in Gainesville, FL., and Kingston N.Y.; grandparents, Pauline Barkley-Gibbs (Daniel); Joe Nathan McGee; Betty Jean Johnson, all of Palatka; aunts; Yvette McGee and Shalawn McGee, both of Palatka; Michele Gibbs, Jacksonville; uncles, David Gibbs, Billings, MT; Joey McGee, Xavier Brown, both of Palatka, and a host of great aunts, great uncles, and cousins; Jasmine's best friend, Jazmine Jackson; her mom Sophia's best friend, Stacy Manley, whom was adoringly called "Auntie Stacy." Visitation of family and friends will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the "Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka, Reverend Karl N. Flagg, Pastor. Apostle Q. L. Dames, of Greater New Deliverance International Ministries, Inc., Sanford, Officiating. The cortege will assemble at 10:20 a.m. Saturday at the Gibbs' 912 River Street residence in Palatka. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery
