James Otis Sanders, 81, of Seville, entered the sunset of life on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at his residence. The son of James Moses and Hannah (Thomas) Sanders, he was born on Friday, April 11, 1941 in Tuskegee, Alabama. He was of the christian faith and was a member of Damascus Baptist Church. James, affectionately known as "Big O", enjoyed sports and fishing. He was employed by Albin Hagstrom Ferneries as a work laborer. He retired in 2006.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in eternal rest by his maternal grandmother, Beulah Thomas; paternal grandmother, Emma Sanders.
He leaves to cherish his memories: devoted companion, Essie P. Thomas; children, Shanesia (Earnest) Logan, Helen (Reginald) Scott, Tina (Carlasle) Thomas, Raymond (Misty) Whipple, Reggie (Tia) Johnson; brothers, Robert Sanders, Jimmie Sanders, Roosevelt Sanders, Eddie (Carolyn) Sanders, Johnny Sanders; sisters, Ruth Surger; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation of family and friends will be 12-2 p.m. with Celebration of Life commencing at 2 p.m., Saturday, February 4 at Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, 1227 Old Highway 17, Crescent City, Dr. Brian K. James, Pastor. Reverend Michael McKay, Greater Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Crescent City.
