IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Lloyd
Jones
November 9, 2008
James Lloyd Jones, 78, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Sunday, November 9, 2008 at North Florida Regional Medical Center, Gainesville. On May 26, 1930 in Brooklyn, New York, James Lloyd Jones was the third of five children born to Charles and Mayble Jones, a British couple residing in the United States. James and his family lived in Brooklyn until the winter of 1935 at which time the family relocated back to their native home of England to the town of Potters Bar. Some of his fond memories from childhood consist of things such as fishing, ice skating, sledding in the snow and bicycling. James graduated from Parkerfield Senior High in 1944 and went on to become a Blacksmiths helper earning a wage of approximately nine dollars per week. In 1948, at age eighteen, James decided to join the United States Army during which he lived in Germany in the towns of Berlin and Nurnberg, received his honorable discharge in 1952, and moved back to America. James was a civil service worker who served aboard the Discoverer and Oceanographer as the Chief Machinist, traveled all over the world, and fulfilled his childhood dream of becoming a sailor. In December of 1970, James and Dorothy were united in holy matrimony in Jacksonville, FL. Upon their marriage, he became an instant father of two boys, Robert and Randy, whom he adopted. The family resided in Jacksonville, Florida until 1980, when they relocated to Palatka for retirement. James was preceded in eternal rest by his wife of 36 years, Dorothy; son, Robert Jones; sister, Mavis; brothers, Edwin, and David. James was a kind and generous person; he was a dependable and supportive friend, a loving father and grandfather. He will most certainly be missed and remembered by all.
He leaves to cherish his memories, son, Randy (Nancy) Jones, Palatka, grandchildren, Brandy & Blake Jones, both of Palatka, brother, Terrence Jones, England; brother-in-law, Lynwood (Vivian) Holley, Hilliard, FL; sisters-in-law, Etrelle (Howard) Brown, Scotland GA, & Madalin V. Holley, Gainesville, and a host of other relatives. Services will be Graveside, Friday Nov. 14th, 1PM at Oak Hill West Cemetery, 712 South Palm Ave., Palatka. Arrangements entrusted to Flagg Serenity Memorial Chapel, Palatka, FL (386) 312-0444. Please send your condolences to www.flaggserenitychapel.com
