James Lewis "O.G." Johnson, 65, of Valdosta, GA., entered the sunset of life on Monday, March 1, 2021 at South Georgia Medical Center, Valdosta. A native of Palatka, he was the son of Ervin and Willie May (Johnson) McCray, born on Saturday, February 4, 1956. He was educated in the Putnam County School System and a class of 1974 graduate. He was of the Christian faith. He subsequently entered the U. S. Marines and served as a Rifleman at Camp Lejeune, NC., earning the Good Conduct Medal and Marine Marksman Rifle Badge and was honorably discharged. James was a hard worker who enjoyed his farming supply duties. Over the years, he was employed by Standlee Hay and Western Hay Farm Supply companies in Valdosta, GA. James was preceded in eternal rest by his parents.
He leaves to cherish his memories: daughter, Shannon (Clifton) Johnson Ellington; grandchildren, Teresha Miller, Clifton Ellington, Jr.; sister, Maple Jones; brothers, Tony McCray, Danny McCray, Otis McCray; stepchildren, Rudetha Johnson, Palatka; Jessica Johnson, Valdosta, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends .
In compliance with CDC COVID-19 guidelines (including required masks) a socially-distanced service with U.S. Marines conducting military honors will be held graveside at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 11 at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL.
