Rev. James Carson Golden, Jr., 81, of Crescent City, answered his Masters eternal call to come home on Saturday morning April 26th, 2008 enroute to Putnam Community Medical Center. He was the fourth born child of James & Ida Mae Golden (March 14, 1927) in St. Petersburg, FL. At an early age his family moved to Perry and later settled in Sanford, FL, and at the age of 16, he joined the U.S. Army. He earned several commendations during his World War II tour and was honorably discharged in 1946. James met and married Vivian Millie Miller on January 1, 1947. After living briefly in Jacksonville, FL, they moved to Daytona Beach, FL, where they attended Bethune-Cookman College. He earned his B.A. degree and graduated with honors and began working a long career as a history teacher at Crescent City Elementary School and George C. Miller Middle School. In 1960, the Lord called him to preach the Gospel and he was ordained at Greater Friendship Baptist Church by Rev. James Jenkins. Reverend Golden eventually pastored Jethro First Baptist Church in Crescent City, FL and Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Hastings, FL for approximately 40 years. He was currently a member of New Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Bishop Cornelius Golden. He was a 32 Mason at New Moon Lodge #32 F&AM., Crescent City. All who knew him and loved him would simply say, He was a good man! He is preceded in eternal rest by his parents; brothers, Izell & Ira D. Golden; sister, Jeanette Golden; and brother-in-law, James Peterson. He leaves to lament his transition and to cherish his memories: devoted wife of 61 years, Vivian M. Golden, Crescent City; children, James T. (Mildra) Golden III, Bradenton, FL, Dietrich J. (Dunstan) Champagnie, Cornelius S. (Demetris) Golden, Yolanda Golden all of Crescent City; sister, Dorothy Peterson, Sanford, FL; 9 grandchildren, Vivian-Louise, Faye Jessica-Maurine, Andrew James, Alexis Leigh, Cornelius Scott Jr., Regina, Maurice, Kahreem, and Lyleigha; 11 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including Evelyn Golden and Wilhemenia Golden. Visitation of family & friends will be 5:30-7:30 pm on Friday, May 2nd with a Memorial Service from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Jethro 1st Baptist Church, 101 Cedar St., Crescent City, Rev. Adrian Washington, Pastor., and Bishop Cornelius Golden, officiating. Homegoing Services will be 11 am Saturday, May 3rd at Miller Intermediate School, 210 Prospect St., Crescent City, the Reverend George E. McRae, Pastor of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, Miami, is presiding. His eldest son, , the Reverend James T. Golden, III, Ward Chapel AME Church, Bradenton is the eulogist. Interment will be in Eden Cemetery with full military honors.
