James Tyrone "Bear" Foster, Sr., 66, a native of Palatka and resident of East Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at his residence. James was the son of William Henry & Henrietta (Mack) Foster, born on Sunday, March 28, 1948. James was educated in Putnam County Schools and subsequently (1968) was inducted in the U.S. Army and while serving earned his high school diploma. He earned several medals and honors, including the National Defense Service Medal, Victory Service Medal, and Gallantry Cross with Palm, etc. He also served with the Army Reserves and completed his Honorable military service on February 1, 1974. James was a longtime 46-year employee of William Revels Farms of Hastings. "Bear" enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being with family and friends. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in eternal rest by his first wife, Mae Lois Betts-Foster; maternal grandparents, Willie and Lizzie ( Nelson) Mack; Sisters, Charlotte White and Loretta Foster; Brothers, David Mack and Willie Foster; and Grandson, Tavaris Foster, To cherish his memories, wife, Angela Nixon Foster, Palatka; sons and daughters, Donna Foster, Orange Park; James Foster, Jr., and Kimberly Foster, East Palatka; Shelendale Nixon and Jeremiah Foster, both of Palatka; Stepson, Quinton Woods, Leesburg; Brother, Cephus ( Helen) Mack, Palatka; Sisters, Angela (Jeffery) Waldo, Orlando; Lora Francois, Orlando; Denise Young, Jacksonville; special friend & caregiver, Clarence Brooks, East Palatka; 7 grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and caring friends. Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m., Friday, November 7, at the chapel. Homegoing Celebration will be 2 p.m. Saturday, November 8, at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity," 2400 Madison Street. Elder Allen Smith, pastor of New Birth Ministries, San Mateo, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Pattersonville Memorial Cemetery, East Palatka. The cortege will assemble 1:15 p.m. at Pentecostal Church of God in Christ, 624 North 9th Street, Palatka.
