Obituary

Jamel Tyrone "Mungi" Simmons, 24, of Deland, entered the sunset of life on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at Florida Hospital, Deland. A native of Gainesville, Jamel was born on Thursday, July 7,1988 to Lee R. McDonald, Jr. and Beverly Simmons. He was reared in his hometown of Crescent City, attended Crescent City Jr.-Sr. High School (Class of 2006) and moved to Deland in 2007. He was a member of Johnson Temple Church of God in Christ, where he served in the Sunshine Band, Junior Choir, and also played drums. "Mungi" was a self-employed lawn maintenance service operator. He loved spending time with family, especially his nieces and nephews. He was an avid sports fan and an auto mechanic. Jamel's favorite quote to his family and friends was "I Love You!" He leaves to cherish his memories; parents, Beverly (Alexander, Jr.) Addison, Vero Beach; father, Lee Roger McDonald, Jr.; stepfather, Roger Harris, both of Crescent City; sisters, Nicole Simmons and Audrey Simmons, both of Deland; India Harris, San Diego, CA; C'Aira Green, Palatka; brothers, Alexander (Rokera) Addison, III, Palatka; Aaron Addison, Crescent City; Andre Addison, Jacksonville; Jammar Harris, Reform, AL; Lee McDonald, III, Palatka; grandfather, Alexander Addison, Sr. Crescent City; several aunts & uncles, Lois Fuller, Deland; Joyce Simmons; Lynnette (David) Johnson; Francine (Robert) Wells; Fredrick Addison; Daniel Addison; Johnny McDonald, all of Crescent City; Valerie Ravenell, Melvin Simmons, both of Lake City; Sophia Washington, Jacksonville; Alexandria Addison, Orlando; Donna McDonald, Okeechobee; Traxie McDonald, New Jersey; Dawn White, Ricky White, both of Vero Beach; devoted cousins, Anthony Owens, Sr.; Stephanie Owens, both of Deland; devoted special friend, Hannah Guzzion, Deland; godparents, Elder H. Harry (Missionary Ruby) Banks, Crescent City; Charles (Loleta) Crooms, Palm Coast; Valerie (James) Mims, Georgia; numerous godsisters and godbrothers, including Shree (Lavaris) Kennon; LaShanda Hughes; Keith Banks; De'Andre Holland, all of Crescent City Kendria Gillespie, Deland and a host of other relatives and caring friends. Visitation of family and friends will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2013 at True Foundation Ministries. Homegoing Celebration will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 13, at True Foundation Ministries, 608 Randolph Street, Crescent City, Pastor Gwendolyn George. Elder H. Harry Banks, pastor of Johnson Temple Church of God In Christ, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Crescent City. The cortege will assemble at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Simmons' family residence, 221 Cedar Street, Crescent City.
