Elder Irish Smith, Sr., 84, of Crescent City, peacefully exited the earthly shores to enter the eternal shores on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center, Palatka. The son of Ziglar and Jammie Lee (Harris) Smith, he was born on Sunday, December 28, 1930 in Orange Hammock (Flagler County), FL. He lived his early years in Clinton, Mississippi spending time with his paternal grandfather, later relocating to Crescent City. At the age of eleven, Irish dedicated his life to the Lord and received the Baptism of the Holy Ghost at the Crescent City Church of God by Faith ("Holy Ghost Headquarters") under the leadership of Elder Aldophus Walker. On September 2, 1951, he was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Genetha Thomas, and they became proud parents of two children. He worked during the winter as a citrus contractor and operated a lawn maintenance service during the summer. He was a retired Putnam County School District custodian (Crescent City High School). For the past 12 years, Elder Smith served faithfully as the pastor of Welaka Church of God by Faith. He loved the community, his church, his family, and most of all he loved the Lord. His unconditional love and radiant smile will be forever cherished. In addition to his parents, Irish was preceded in eternal rest by his siblings, Dora Wilson Brown, Eddie Bell Addie, Lois Flagg, Joe Raymond Smith, Elmer Smith, John Smith, and Clarence Smith; goddaughter, Lisa Nelson. He leaves to cherish his memories: loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Genetha Smith; son, Irish (Rosa) Smith, Jr., daughter, Linda (Leroy) Moore, all of Crescent City; 8 grandchildren, Roderick (Latarsha) Moore, Middleburg; Jessica (Bryan) Gray, Glen Ellyn, IL; Kuwanna Moore, Andre Martin, Natalie Moore, Myra (Roger) Harris, Shameka Jackson, and Ashley Martin, all of Crescent City; 9 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ethel Thomas, Jacksonville; goddaughter, Keona Shelley, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends Friday's visitation of family & friends will be 6-8 p.m. at Welaka Church of God by Faith, 700 Palmetto Street. Saturday's visitation will be from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., at Crescent City Church of God by Faith, 1109 Huntington Road. Homegoing Celebration will be 2 p.m., Saturday, September 26, at True Foundation Ministries, 608 Randolph Street, Crescent City, Pastor Gwendolyn George.
