Mildred Irene Nelson, 86, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Sunday, July 8, 2012 at Palatka Health Care Center following an extended illness. A native and lifelong resident of Palatka, Mildred was born on Wednesday, March 24, 1926 to the late Ada Bell James and Willie Williams. She was a graduate of Central Academy High School, class of 1946. Mildred was a member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Mildred touched the lives of countless individuals with her cheerful personality. When asked how she was doing, she would respond joyfully with her favorite saying, "fine as wine in the summer time!" In addition to her parents, Mildred is preceded in eternal rest by her husband, Eddie Nelson and brother, Elder James Ashford. To cherish her memories: loving daughters and son, Vivian (Alphonso, Sr., ) McRae; Barbara A. (Theodore) Cohens; and Willie (Tiffany) Nelson, all of Palatka; brother, Johnny (Margaret) Styles Jr., Lincoln, Nebraska; 7 grandchildren, Felecia (John) Nelson, Eric (Kirra) Kelly, Alphonso McRae, Jr., Kay Nelson, Dewain (Demetrish) Nelson, Ranada (Lovarnso) Gaddy-Walker, Mia Nelson; 17 great-grandchildren; and host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. Visitation of family and friends will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2012 at the "Chapel" of Serenity. Homegoing Celebration will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2012, at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, 800 Madison Street, Palatka. Dr. Andrew McRae, pastor of Faith Missionary Baptist Church, Gainesville is presiding and her grandson, Pastor Eric M. Kelly, First Baptist Church of West Palm Beach, is the Eulogist. Internment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery, Palatka.
