Huey T. Taylor, 88, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at Flagler Hospital, St. Augustine. The son of James Taylor, Sr. and Francis Robinson Taylor, he was born on Sunday, October 9, 1932 in Daytona Beach. Huey was a 1950 graduate of Campbell Street High School. After graduation, he attended Bethune Cookman College, where he played Baritone and Trumpet in the college band. He was a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Math and Science in 1954. Huey received a Master's degree in Administration and Supervision from Nova Southeastern University on August 15, 1978. Huey's hobbies included photography and fishing. PVT Taylor was an U.S. Army veteran stationed at Camp Irwin, now Fort Irwin in Barstow, California. Following an Honorable Discharge, Taylor returned to Daytona Beach to marry his college sweetheart and the love of his life, Carolyn Morman Taylor. Mr. Huey moved to Palatka, where he was employed by Putnam County School District as a Science and Math teacher and as Dean of Students for 37 years. On Wednesday, October 22, 2014, Huey Taylor and his family united with Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Reverend Karl N. Flagg.
He leaves to cherish his memories: devoted wife of 65 Years, Carolyn Morman Taylor; loving children, Reginald W. (Fang) Taylor, Rome GA., Patrice T. Jackson, Palatka; loving grandchildren, Brandon (Sha'rae) Taylor, Katy, TX; Sean (Krystal) Jackson, Tallahassee; Brian W. Taylor, Conyers, GA; Shae N. Jackson, Lakeland; Brett G. Taylor, Rome, GA; sister, Naomi Taylor Gardner, Apopka; brother, James (Marie) Taylor, Jr. Orlando; nieces, Joy Taylor, Houston, TX; Tracy Taylor, Orlando; nephews, James C. Taylor III, LaRone (Dawn) Gardner, Apopka; Leonard (Gloria) Gardner, Jr., Ocala; cousins, Finley Carter, Cincinnati, OH; Betty Locklord, Detroit, MI; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In compliance with CDC COVID-19 guidelines (including required masks) a socially-distanced visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, April 30 and Celebration of Huey's Life with military honors will be 2 p.m., Saturday, May 1 at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Avenue. Reverend Karl N. Flagg, Senior Pastor is the eulogist. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery.
