Hubert "Hugh" Charles Hoerth, 82, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at Putnam Community Medical Center. A native of Providence, Rhode Island, he was the son of Hubert and Helen (Mathis) Hoerth, born on Monday, October 28, 1935. Following high school graduation, he earned an Associate of Arts degree. Hugh was of the Lutheran faith. His professional employment career before retirement includes, State of FL., Behavioral Program Specialist Supervisor at Tacachale (formerly Sunland Training Center), Gainesville; and Unit Clerk, United States Postal Service. He also served our great nation with pride and honor as a U.S. Marine. "Hugh" would often referred to himself as a "Jar Head" and he often quoted, "Once a Marine always a Marine!"
His hobbies included watching football and basketball; fishing, collecting coins, old cars swimming, going to the beach, going out to eat, and going on houses & property searches. Hugh also enjoyed listening to various genres of music, going to family gatherings, and doing crossword puzzles. Most of all, his greatest pleasure was spending quality time with his devoted wife of 26 years.
In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in eternal rest by his godmother, Hilda Cruz.
He leaves to cherish his memories: devoted wife of 26 years, Bernice Johnson, Palatka; son, Robert "Bobby" Hoerth, St. Augustine; daughters, Cheryl (Garry) Price, Alachua; Patricia (Glen) Christian, Augusta, GA.; Debra (Richard) Howell, Ormond Beach; 5 grandchildren, Nathan (Gina) Christian, Erica (Dustin) Crawford, Lauren (Nick) Feagin, Dale Howell, Kalee Howell; 4 great-grandchildren, Noah Christian, Blake Crawford, Adalyn Crawford, Emma Feagin; and a host of other caring relatives and friends.
Memorial Services at the graveside with Military honors will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, September 24.
