Obituary

Herman "Flute" Allen, Jr., the son of Herman Allen, Sr. and Shirley Jean and Danny Crooms, was born on Tuesday, December 11, 1984,  in Raleigh, NC. He was educated in the Putnam County School District and a 2004 graduate of Palatka High School. "Flute" was a member of Mt. Olive AME Church, East Palatka, where he served in the youth and usher ministries. He was an avid Florida Gator fan who loved freestyle painting and entertaining his nephews. He also enjoyed doing yard maintenance. "Flute" was employed by Moss Solar Co. and several fast food restaurants.

Herman was preceded in eternal rest by his grandfather, Frank Walker, Sr.; great-grandfathers, Jettie (Mabel) Hills, Sr., Richard (Bernice) Kelly; paternal grandmother, Hattie Mae Allen; maternal grandmother, Juanita Hills; aunts, Candie K. Belser; uncles, Clarkie Medlock, Cedric C. Walker, Frank Walker, Jr., great uncles, Eddie Hills, Jettie Hills.

Herman "Flute" Allen, Jr., entered the sunset of life on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at HCA Florida North FL Hospital, Gainesville.

He leaves to cherish his memories: mother, Shirley Jean (Danny) Crooms; father, Herman Allen, Sr.; brothers, Christopher (Tabitha) Jackson, Palm Coast; Reginald (Latonya) Allen, Marco McKinnon, Tory Smart, all of Palatka; Terrance (Tomeka) Allen, Danny (Lakiela) Allen, both of Hastings; Simon (Lashaun Simmons) Lewis, Jacksonville; Shaun (Tekita) Allen, Albany, GA; sisters, Ebony Allen, Somia Session, Shebria Allen, La'Mesa Crooms, Carmella Crooms, all of Palatka; Shakela Crooms, Orange Park; uncles, Donald (Bobbie Jean) Baker, Ricky Medlock, Randy Hills, Eddie Lee Scripp, Solomon Allen, Charles (Loleta) Crooms, Jimmy (Linda) Taylor, Freddie Taylor, Ronald Kelly, Sr.; aunts, Patricia (Kelvin) Varnes, Earnestine Green, LaJune (Min. Alfred) Esau, Marie (Andrew, Jr.) Powell, Betty (Nathaniel) Brewer, Melodie (Eddie Lee) Badie, Kathleen Walker, Anita (Earnest) Stanley, Connetta Williams; great aunts, Doris Mosley, Marion McGriff, Hershel Thomas, Margaret Holder, Evelyn Hills, Catherine Hills; godparents, Sammy and Rose Mack; special friends, Pernell (Tamara) Thomas; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Visitation of family and friends will be 6-8 p.m., Friday, May 5 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Celebration of Life will be 11 a.m., Saturday, May 6 at Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 1000 N. 19th Street, Palatka. Minister Alfred Esau, Associate Minister of Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery.
