Obituary

Henry Uncle Henry Thomas, 92, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life Thursday, March 18, 2010 at Putnam Community Medical Center following an extended illness. He was born Sunday, April 5, 1917 in Pelham (Mitchell County) Georgia to York and Martha Jane (Jones) Thomas, Sr. In his early years, he was a member of Joyful Branch Baptist Church in Pelham, Georgia. He was a longtime resident of Jacksonville, residing in Palatka since 1988. He was a loyal longtime retired employee of W.W. Gay Mechanical Contractors (Plumbing Division). He was an avid baseball fan and loved playing the Florida lottery. Uncle Henry was preceded in eternal rest by his parents; his wife of 58 years, Susie Redden Thomas; brothers, Viliana, Sylvania, Larry, Russell, York Jr. and Alfred Thomas; sisters, Lena Coleman, Gladys Acree, Annie Hill, Petronia Favor and Ethel Hines.

He leaves to cherish his memories; beloved twin sister, Henrettia Britten, Palatka; devoted great nephew, Cory D. (Keisha) McCray, Palatka; Daughter, Annie Thomas Gibson, Jacksonville; Grandchildren, Elaine Thomas, Charles (Trish) Harrison and Jerome (Tonya) Harrison all of Jacksonville; and a host of nieces, nephews and other caring family and friends.

Visitation of family and Friends will be Friday, March 26 (today) 5-8 p.m. at the Chapel of Serenity. Celebration of Mr. Thomass Life will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 27 at The Chapel of Serenity, Rev. Karl N. Flagg, Pastor of Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery. The cortege will assemble 9:30 a.m. Saturday at his sister Henrettias residence, 912 Madison Street, Palatka.
